About The Position

The function of the Materials Management Department is to provide a centralized system for the procurement and control of supplies, equipment and materials utilized within the hospital. The Director of Materials Management provides leadership and direction for the department and its employees, and decision-making support to the hospital’s management team to ensure cost-effective, quality-oriented purchasing, distribution and inventory control decision making. The Director of Materials Management provides for the day-to-day management of departmental operations, planning, staffing and scheduling, policy/procedure development, budget development and management, staff education and training, systems develpoment, including automation, and implementation.

Requirements

This position requires completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administation or a closely related field.
In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 3 years of current materials management experience is required.
Minimum of 3 or more years of experience in procurement and inventory management of medical supplies and devices, preferably in a hospital materials management setting, is preferred.
Experience with automated materials management information systems necessary.
Position requires thorough knowledge of accepted practices in the purchase of supplies, awareness of federal, state, and JCAHO regulations as they relate to the procurement, storage and use of medical materials.
Must be familiar with the maintenance requirements of various types of medical equipment, leasing vs. purchasing rationales, stockless, and just-in-time concepts.
Customer service skills, detail orientation, and financial acuity are also required.
