About The Position

Exciting Opportunities with Share Food Program! We are looking for a Director of Individual Giving to add to our team! Share Food Program (“Share”) is the leading hunger relief organization in the Greater Philadelphia region and one of the largest independent food banks in the nation. Share feeds hundreds of thousands of individuals each month—more than half of whom are children and seniors. The ripple effects of the pandemic, record rates of inflation, and critical cuts to government assistance benefits have plunged even more people into hunger and poverty. Philadelphia has the second highest rate of poverty of any major city in the U.S., and food insecurity is a public health crisis. Our network of caring volunteers, dedicated professionals, and generous donors works to bring nourishing food to our neighbors in need. Since 2022, the need for Share’s services has increased by 120% and the need will only increase with the passage of recent legislation. Share is committed to being at the forefront of advocacy fighting against these policies and ensuring everyone has access to food. Funding for advocacy and expanding its major donor program are strategic goals for Share. Furthermore, Share has successfully completed two stages of its capital campaign to expand and revolutionize its Philadelphia warehouse headquarters at the heart of Share’s operations, to help more neighbors in need. Position Summary: The Director of Individual Giving is a senior member of the Development team and is responsible for designing, managing, and growing a comprehensive individual gifts program, including major gifts, that advances the mission of Share Food Program to fight hunger and food insecurity across the region. This position manages a portfolio of medium-high -capacity donors and prospects and leads all aspects of the donor engagement cycle, including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and upgrade. This role blends strategic individual giving with high-touch major donor relations, ensuring that donors experience meaningful, personalized engagement and clearly understand the impact of their philanthropy. The Director of Individual Giving works closely with the Chief Development Officer, Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Development team to build long-term relationships that result in increased philanthropic investment, including leadership annual gifts, multi-year commitments, capital, and planned gifts.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive fundraising experience, including a proven track record of securing five- and six-figure gifts.
  • Demonstrated success managing a major gifts portfolio and closing complex solicitations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking, project management, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience working with donor databases/CRMs and Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and a donor-centered, equity-driven approach to fundraising.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of approximately 75–100 donors and prospects capable of making gifts of $1,000+ annually.
  • Develop and implement individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies using a moves management approach to grow portfolio size and value.
  • Set annual engagement, visit, solicitation, and revenue goals in partnership with the Chief Development Officer.
  • Identify, qualify, and research new major gift prospects, working closely with existing supporters, staff, Board and fundraising committee members to build a strong pipeline.
  • Conduct regular in-person, virtual, and phone meetings with donors and prospects for discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Prepare written proposals, gift agreements, and tailored solicitation materials in collaboration with program and communications staff.
  • Support and partner with the Executive Director, Chief Development Officer, and Board members in major donor cultivation and solicitation.
  • Play an active role in capital campaign and special initiative fundraising, as applicable.
  • Design and implement a comprehensive stewardship program that communicates impact and deepens donor engagement.
  • Oversee personalized acknowledgments, reports, and communications for ,current, prospective and lapsed donors, including executive and board-signed correspondence.
  • Coordinate donor recognition, site visits, briefings, and engagement events.
  • Ensure timely and meaningful follow-up and reporting in alignment with donor expectations and organizational values.
  • Supports all aspects of planning and executing special events,
  • Partner with Development Operations to ensure accurate gift processing, database tracking, reporting, and compliance.
  • Maintain detailed donor records, contact reports, and strategy notes in the CRM.
  • Serve as a liaison to Communications and External Affairs to integrate donor-centered messaging and storytelling.
  • Contribute to overall development planning, forecasting, and fundraising strategy.
