About The Position

The Department Director of Human Resources, Payroll & Benefits is a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources, payroll operations, and employee benefits. This role partners closely with executive leadership and the entire HR team to align people strategies with organizational goals, ensure compliance, and foster a high-performing, positive workplace culture. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in HR leadership, payroll administration, and benefits strategy, along with strong business acumen and the ability to lead through growth, change, and complexity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including HR leadership responsibility.
  • Demonstrated expertise in payroll and benefits administration. Knowledge of Paycom HRIS is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and regulatory compliance
  • Proven ability to partner with executive leadership and influence at all levels.

Nice To Haves

  • HR certifications (SHRM-SCP, SPHR, CPP, or equivalent)
  • Experience leading HR in a multi-location or high growth environment.
  • HRIS and payroll system implementation or optimization experience

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive HR strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on workforce planning, talent strategy, organizational design, and employee relations.
  • Lead HR initiatives that support growth, engagement, retention, and performance
  • Oversee accurate and timely payroll processing, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Lead benefits strategy, design, administration, and vendor management, including health, retirement, wellness, and leave programs.
  • Evaluate and optimize payroll and benefits systems, policies, and processes for efficiency and scalability.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations (e.g., FLSA, FMLA, ACA, ERISA, EEOC)
  • Develop, update, and enforce HR policies and procedures.
  • Manage audits, reporting, and risk mitigation related to HR, payroll, and benefits.
  • Oversee onboarding, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Champion employee engagement and organizational culture
  • Address complex employee relations matters with discretion and sound judgment.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the HR, payroll, and benefits team.
  • Establish clear goals, accountability, and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative, service-oriented HR function.
