About The Position

THE DIRECTOR OF FUNDRAISING AND MARKETING PROVIDES STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP AND OPERATIONAL OVERSIGHT FOR THE AGENCY’S FUNDRAISING, DONOR ENGAGEMENT, MARKETING, AND COMMUNICATIONS EFFORTS. THIS ROLE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR DESIGNING AND IMPLEMENTING INFRASTRUCTURE, WORKFLOWS, AND STRATEGIES THAT ADVANCE THE ORGANIZATION’S MISSION, STRENGTHEN ITS PUBLIC PRESENCE, AND SUPPORT SUSTAINABLE GROWTH. WORKING COLLABORATIVELY WITH SENIOR LEADERSHIP, STAFF, AND THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, THE DIRECTOR DRIVES COMPREHENSIVE DEVELOPMENT AND MARKETING INITIATIVES, CULTIVATES KEY RELATIONSHIPS, ENSURES CONSISTENT MESSAGING AND BRANDING, AND ALIGNS CROSS-DEPARTMENTAL EFFORTS TO EFFECTIVELY TELL THE ORGANIZATION’S STORY AND MAXIMIZE FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES.

Requirements

  • BACHELOR’S DEGREE
  • MINIMUM 3 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE MANAGING STAFF AND LEADING A TEAM.
  • PROVEN SUCCESS IN FUNDRAISING, MARKETING, AND STRATEGIC PLANNING WITHIN A NONPROFIT OR MISSION-DRIVEN ORGANIZATION.
  • STRONG INTERPERSONAL SKILLS WITH A COLLABORATIVE AND OPTIMISTIC APPROACH TO LEADERSHIP.
  • DEMONSTRATED ABILITY TO BUILD INFRASTRUCTURE AND SYSTEMS FROM THE GROUND UP.
  • EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH DONOR DATABASES, CRM SYSTEMS, AND MARKETING ANALYTICS TOOLS.
  • EXISTING RELATIONSHIPS WITH DONORS, FOUNDATIONS, CONSULTANTS, AND PUBLIC/PRIVATE SECTOR COLLEAGUES.
  • EXCELLENT WRITTEN AND VERBAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS.
  • COMMITMENT TO THE MISSION OF ENDING HOMELESSNESS AND IMPROVING LIVES IN DETROIT.

Responsibilities

  • Design, recommend, and implement Agency and departmental infrastructure such as communication flow, policies, procedures, etc. that are conducive to telling our story, acquiring funds, and in accordance with best practices.
  • Develop and implement workflows, processes, and timelines for all development and marketing activities.
  • Evaluate and identify the agency’s development and marketing assets and needs (staffing, technology, etc.).
  • Provide leadership, consultation, design, and execution of comprehensive fundraising and marketing strategic plans.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporate partners, and consultants.
  • Bring an existing network of philanthropic and professional contacts to support organizational growth.
  • Leading and supporting in grant writing efforts.
  • Analyze and optimize fundraising software, tracking systems, and reporting tools.
  • Oversee the development of marketing campaigns, digital content, and public relations strategies.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all platforms and materials.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to highlight program impact and community engagement.
  • Coordinate fundraising efforts with Finance, Homeless Services, Permanent Housing, and the Board of Directors.
  • Serve as a key liaison to the Fundraising and Marketing Committee and attend quarterly Board meetings.
  • Report regularly to the Executive Director on progress, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Foster a positive, communicative, and inclusive culture across departments.
