About The Position

Teaching Innovation and Learning Technologies (TILT) partners with the university community to advance student success by bringing instructional design, educational technology, and faculty development to work in concert. This position advances all four of the FHSU Provost’s 2025 Academic Affairs Priorities: embodying our regional purpose, student success as a shared responsibility, academic program innovation and digital transformation, and evidence-informed decision making. The role is central to implementing the Digital Master Plan’s vision of digital-first learning environments where meaningful education happens through human connection, not just content delivery. The Director of Faculty Development reports to the Assistant Provost for Teaching Innovation and Learning Technologies. This is a supervisory position and requires extensive teaching and professional development experience in a post-secondary setting, with a focus on supporting best practices in teaching and professional growth.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in education, curriculum design, faculty development, or related field or 6 years of experience in lieu of a master's degree
  • College-level teaching experience

  • Strong communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and educational technologies
  • Experience with online and hybrid course development
  • Expertise in leveraging Networked Learning and related relational frameworks to enhance faculty collaboration, peer-to-peer mentorship, and the development of professional learning communities (PLCs)
  • Translate current research in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and educational technology into actionable faculty development programs, providing leadership on the evolving role of Generative AI in the classroom and curriculum design
  • Experience designing peer learning initiatives or faculty learning communities
  • Record of scholarship or presentation on teaching and learning

Responsibilities

  • Faculty Development Design and lead professional development responsive to faculty needs across career stages and appointment types—from adjunct to full professor—and across all teaching modalities: face-to-face, hybrid, and online.
  • Collaborate with Global Affairs/International Student Services on professional development needs for faculty deployed internationally.
  • Facilitate programming on course design, assessment, student engagement in learning, and the integration of educational technologies—with student success as the orienting goal.
  • Support faculty in navigating educational technologies, helping them distinguish when technology enhances learning from when it substitutes for essential human interaction.
  • Create resources, workshops, and asynchronous materials that faculty can access when and how they need them.
  • Contribute to university initiatives on curriculum transformation, online learning quality, and high-impact practices that improve student outcomes.
  • Faculty Community & Connection Lead initiatives that build faculty community such as peer mentoring, communities of practice, faculty learning circles, cross-departmental collaborations.
  • Design programming that connects faculty across colleges and disciplines—creating the bridging relationships through which new ideas travel.
  • Foster environments where faculty can talk honestly about teaching: what’s working, what isn’t, what they’re trying, how to experiment.
  • Support early-career faculty and those transitioning to new teaching modalities or developing market-responsive programs aligned with regional workforce needs.
  • Leadership & Strategy Lead and develop TILT professional development staff, investing in their growth and modeling a collaborative culture.
  • Lead annual planning for faculty development programming in alignment with Academic Affairs Priorities, the university strategic plan, and the Digital Master Plan.
  • Collaborate with deans, chairs, and other academic leaders to understand departmental/program teaching cultures and respond to specific needs.
  • Consult and collaborate with other university units on staff development strategies.
  • Collaborating with Professional and Continuing Education (PCE) on mutually beneficial opportunities.
  • Use program analytics and participation data to guide decisions—tracking not just attendance but evidence of impact on teaching practice and faculty network development.
  • Chair the faculty development committee and contribute to cross-disciplinary collaboration that breaks down traditional silos.
