About The Position

The Director of Facilities provides strategic leadership and oversight of the hospital's physical environment, including maintenance, plant operations, grounds, and environmental safety. This position ensures that all facilities and infrastructure meet regulatory, safety, and operational standards to support quality patient care and a safe workplace. The Director leads facilities planning, budgeting, and capital improvement initiatives while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and customer service. The Facilities Director additionally serves as the safety officer and participates in development and implementation of the Hospital Safety and Security Programs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in facilities or plant operations management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably in a healthcare or regulated environment.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under deadlines.
  • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Positive interpersonal skills and proven ability to work well with all levels of management and staff.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to be an effective team player as well as be an effective leader.
  • Excellent project management and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven leadership and team development skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds with frequent lifting/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Able to sit for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day), and frequently stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch throughout the workday.
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to perform the primary duties and responsibilities of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee all facility operations including maintenance, plant services, environmental services and grounds to ensure efficient and reliable building systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including CMS, Joint Commission, OSHA, NFPA, DEQ, and EPA standards. Serve as the safety and compliance liaison for facilities-related audits and inspections.
  • Develop and implement long-term facility and infrastructure plans aligned with organizational goals and sustainability initiatives.
  • Prepare, monitor, and manage the department's operating and capital budgets. Optimize resource allocation and cost control measures.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance programs and ensure timely response to repairs or emergencies to minimize disruption to patient care.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage new construction, renovation, and expansion projects. Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure quality, timelines, and adherence to budget.
  • Support hospital emergency management planning and response efforts, including utility failure contingency plans, disaster readiness, and life safety systems.
  • Implement energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives to reduce environmental impact and operational costs.
  • Recruit, hire, evaluate, and develop facilities staff; define work assignments and ensure adequate staffing to meet operational and on-call needs.
  • Oversee facility master planning, capital acquisition, and renovation/construction projects; collaborate with project managers and clinical leaders on resource needs.
  • Leads response efforts to building emergencies and participates in hospital disaster preparedness and safety programs.
