About The Position

The University of Maine School of Law, in the coastal community of Portland, Maine, seeks a full-time Director of Externships & Pro Bono Service to join its faculty in the Fall of 2026. The Director will be responsible for developing and maintaining high-quality externship placements across public service, judicial, government, and in-house sectors, ensuring diverse opportunities for students to earn academic credit while developing essential skills under the supervision of practicing attorneys. Key responsibilities include creating and teaching a weekly externship seminar, advising and mentoring students, cultivating relationships with external partners (including the bar and bench), and collaborating with clinical faculty and student services. Additionally, the Director will oversee and expand the voluntary pro bono program, helping students track their hours toward a graduation certificate. The Externship Director position is a full-time faculty position within the School of Law with rights comparable to tenured and tenure-track faculty.
