About The Position

The Director of External Scientific Engagement, Amyloidosis shapes the external stakeholder engagement strategy aligned to the medical strategy and coordinates its execution through partnership and coordination among the US Medical Affairs team and other internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams. It is a key scientific role that reports directly to the Medical Head – Amyloidosis, within the BioPharmaceuticals Business Unit’s US Medical CVRM franchise. What you’ll do: ESE Strategy and Delivery: Be responsible for the end-to-end external scientific engagement strategy, plan, and execution across ESE engagement aligned to TA priorities and congress strategies—driving transparency, consistency, and measurable impact. Unified External Interface: Develop and drive a coherent and agile external presence that advances AstraZeneca’s scientific leadership agenda in ATTR-CM and PN, ensuring our voice is timely, data-driven, and trusted in front of external stakeholders. Transforming Care: Design and deliver engagements that catalyze practice change, streamlining pathways from diagnosis to initiation and persistence, so patients realize the benefits of new launches quickly and sustainably. Innovation: Introduce novel solutions and creative models for external engagement that differentiate AstraZeneca, expand our reach, and accelerate evidence adoption in clinical practice. Team Leadership: Partner with cross‑functional Medical Affairs colleagues, as well as other functions, to drive a cohesive engagement and management plan, ensuring delivery of outcomes that align with the medical strategy. Operational Excellence: Ensure all activities, tools, and systems meet the highest ethical and compliance standards—embedding rigor, clarity, and accountability in everything we do.

Requirements

  • Advanced scientific degree (i.e. MD, PhD, or PharmD)
  • Medical/clinical/scientific expertise in Amyloidosis
  • 5+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, ideally in Medical Affairs and Amyloidosis or relevant years of experience in the Medical / Healthcare field
  • Strategic and innovative thinker with executive presence
  • Demonstrated track record delivering results in a complex matrix environment, building capabilities, and leading large scale impactful medical initiatives
  • Proven ability to collaborate and build internal and external networks
  • Strong analytical mind-set and ability to quickly assess large amounts of information and distil into key messages and actions
  • Persuasive oral and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and deliver impactful presentations & F2F engagements
  • Proven ability to collaborate with individuals of diverse experience and backgrounds, across varying functions, levels within the company, or external organizations, to effectively deliver on goals
  • Strong business acumen, familiarity with the US healthcare system, and key regulations in the pharmaceutical industry
