About The Position

The Director of Enterprise Project Portfolio Management (EPPM) leads the strategy, governance, and execution oversight of the organization's project portfolio, providing people leadership to a team of Portfolio Specialists and ensuring alignment with enterprise goals, with a primary focus on maximizing business value. This role ensures that investments align with strategic objectives, that resources are optimized across the enterprise, and that measurable value is delivered through disciplined portfolio management and continuous improvement practices. The Director partners closely with senior management, business leaders, and technology teams to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective decision-making across the project lifecycle.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in business administration, information systems, finance, engineering, or a related field; A master's is preferred in business administration, project management, MIS, or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in project, program, or portfolio management.
  • 4-6 years leading enterprise-level portfolios or large cross-functional program organizations with prior leadership experience managing teams or influencing through matrix leadership.
  • Deep knowledge of portfolio management methodologies, including prioritization models, value scoring, and capacity management.
  • Strong understanding of project and program management frameworks (waterfall, agile, hybrid).
  • Familiarity with IT governance processes, including SDLC, architecture governance, and product delivery lifecycle.
  • High proficiency with portfolio tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Clarity, Planview, Jira, Power BI).
  • Skilled at facilitating executive-level discussions, prioritization workshops, and decision-making sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and evolution of the enterprise project portfolio strategy to ensure alignment with organizational goals and long-term priorities.
  • Define and implement value delivery frameworks to ensure consistent application of benefits identification, tracking, realization, and reporting.
  • Evaluate proposed initiatives/projects for strategic alignment, value contribution, risk, and organizational readiness.
  • Maintain a multiyear roadmap of enterprise initiatives and ensure continuous optimization of the portfolio mix.
  • Support enterprise governance processes (e.g., SDLC, Annual Project Planning, Service Catalog, Project intake, coordination with the Architecture Review Board (ARB), product strategy, and information technology and finance) to foster transparent, data-driven decision-making.
  • Establish and enforce portfolio standards, policies, and methodologies, including standardization of project artifacts in relationship to business case development, value scoring, and stage gate reviews.
  • Provide clear and actionable recommendations to executive leadership regarding investment prioritization, sequencing, investment reporting, and capacity constraints.
  • Monitor project portfolio performance metrics, ensure delivery of scope, schedule, budget, and value outcomes.
  • Identify systemic risks and cross-program/project interdependencies, driving proactive mitigation strategies across programs, information technology, and business units.
  • Ensure timely and accurate portfolio reporting, including dashboards, KPIs, benefits realization, and executive briefings.
  • Partner with information technology and product delivery leaders to drive consistent quality, accountability, and operational excellence in project execution.
