About The Position

Founded in 1999 as New York State’s first charter school, Sisulu-Walker Charter School of Harlem serves grades K–5 with a mission rooted in academic excellence, character development, and deep community partnership. Entering its 25+ year legacy, the school is elevating its community presence, celebrating academic and cultural achievements, and driving sustainable enrollment growth. To support these goals, the school is hiring its first dedicated marketing leader. The Director of Enrollment & Marketing Strategy will build and lead a comprehensive marketing and communications function focused on awareness, engagement, and enrollment growth. The position will begin as a full-time, Hybrid, contract role with the opportunity to transition into a permanent position based on performance and organizational fit. The contractor will work closely with the principal, DOO, staff, students, and families to strengthen the school’s brand and drive measurable enrollment results.

Requirements

  • 5–8+ years of professional marketing experience.
  • Direct experience leading enrollment and recruitment marketing for a school, education network, or youth-focused organization.
  • Demonstrated success designing and executing integrated, full-funnel marketing and enrollment strategies.
  • Proven ability to develop brand positioning, messaging frameworks, and value propositions.
  • Experience managing digital platforms, social media, content development, and community-based campaigns.
  • Exceptional writing, storytelling, and communication skills.
  • Strategic thinker with strong execution and follow-through.
  • Proficiency with social media management, website CMS tools, and marketing/analytics platforms.
  • Highly organized project manager who thrives on structure and clear plans.
  • Creative, collaborative, and motivated by student success and community impact.
  • Must be able to work on-site, in person, Monday–Friday.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Education, Public Relations, or a related field required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and articulate a differentiated value proposition within the NYC education landscape.
  • Establish audience-specific positioning and messaging (prospective families, current families,community partners, donors).
  • Ensure consistent brand identity across all print, digital, and community-facing materials.
  • Build and execute a full-funnel marketing strategy to increase awareness and drive enrollment.
  • Manage multichannel marketing across website, social media, email, community outreach,local advertising, and grassroots engagement.
  • Create and manage the annual marketing and enrollment calendar.
  • Build partnerships with Harlem nonprofits, early childhood centers, community groups, and faith-based organizations to expand the enrollment pipeline.
  • Lead marketing support for open houses, school tours, family info sessions, and community events.
  • Proactively reach out to prospective families who have submitted applications to schedule school tours, conduct timely follow-ups, and support families in completing enrollment and registration requirements.
  • Manage applicant follow-up workflows to ensure strong conversion from application to enrollment, providing a welcoming, organized, and family-centered enrollment experience.
  • Serve as a visible, daily ambassador for the school within Harlem.
  • Lead the refresh and ongoing management of the school’s website.
  • Create compelling, culturally relevant content highlighting student success, school culture, and community impact.
  • Develop and manage a strong social media presence across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube.
  • Produce short-form video content for TikTok and Instagram Reels that resonates with families and the Harlem community.
  • Collaborate daily with teachers, deans, operations staff, and the principal to source, capture, and upload authentic, timely content.
  • Oversee photo, video, and storytelling projects that bring the Sisulu-Walker experience to life.
  • Define KPIs and implement tools to track awareness, engagement, inquiries, and conversion.
  • Deliver monthly performance updates to the Principal and Board of Trustees.
  • Manage external vendors and creative partners as needed.
