Summary: The Director of Engineering must manage their team in all aspects of projects, including safety, quality, organization, planning, scheduling, subcontractor scheduling, and day-to-day issues. In addition, the individual must ensure projects are completed on time, on budget, and in a quality manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Engineering with 10 or more years of leadership experience in manufacturing engineering.
  • Ability to easily read and understand blueprints and specifications.
  • Experience in a Food or Beverage processing facility.
  • Ability to multi-task by overseeing several projects.
  • Highly motivated, organized, and self-starter.
  • Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and reporting practices.
  • Willingness to work occasional weekends is required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or Inventor.
  • Lead by example and follow company policies and ethical standards.
  • Ability to travel short notice, both domestically and abroad.
  • Must be willing to relocate to the surrounding area.
  • Proficient in MS Office Software Packages, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate's Degree in Engineering with 8 or more years of leadership experience in manufacturing engineering.
  • Experience in a slaughtering and/or protein processing facility.
  • Excellent Management and Communication skills preferred.
  • Knowledge of water, steam, and compressed air systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of process safety management (PSM) preferred.
  • General knowledge of electrical and control systems is preferred.
  • General understanding of NEC code, EPA, and OSHA and their best practices preferred.
  • General understanding of mechanical design is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Program Engineering teams or department including planning, research & development, and execution of all tasks on projects.
  • Facilitate pre-bid meetings, contact subcontractors, and prepare scope of work documents in support of the company's project estimating efforts.
  • Manage the design and execution (i.e. scope, schedule, budget and staffing) of projects as well as the development, implementation and improvement of engineering processes.
  • Manage external environmental and engineering firms as needed.
  • Oversee the preparing bid packages, issuance of contract documents and invoice approval.
  • Drive continuous improvement & quality accountability through productivity and quality measures, process training, and process rigor.
  • Manage project cost/budgets; regularly reviews and updates project and labor costs, processes change orders in a timely fashion, makes suggestions on improving overall productivity and cost savings.
  • Align resources and processes for project execution to meet technical performance objectives within schedule and cost constraints.
  • Oversee asset management with internal accounting function.
  • Provide technical and engineering services and assist in resolving design issues.
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of submitted documents against contract drawings and specifications.
  • Close out estimates, complete post-construction checks, complete as built and review contractor invoices.
  • Communicate clearly, verbally and in writing, with other company personnel and the customer as required.
  • Organize staff and assign work for both personnel development and product development.
  • Lead organizational growth by building strong relationships across business and functional boundaries.
  • Communicate with construction foremen, engineers, inspectors, estimators, and other company personnel.
  • Interface with local, state, and federal regulators/inspectors as needed.
