JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title : Director of Engineering Department: Engineering Supervision Exercised: Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, Engineering Supervisors, Maintenance Engineers Supervision Received: General Manager MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical or vocational training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, or related fields preferred. Certifications such as EPA, CPO, HVAC license, or similar credentials strongly preferred. Experience Minimum 5–7 years of hotel or commercial facility maintenance experience. Previous supervisory or management experience in engineering required. Strong background in building systems, preventive maintenance, and regulatory compliance required. Capital project experience preferred. Skills and Knowledge Extensive knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and life-safety systems. Strong leadership and team development skills with the ability to manage engineering staff. Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues. Understanding of OSHA regulations, building codes, and fire/life safety requirements. Proficiency with CMMS/work order systems and Microsoft Office. Strong organizational and project management abilities. Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and on-call rotations. Job Duties and Responsibilities Oversee all engineering and maintenance operations to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable building performance. Lead, train, coach, and evaluate engineering staff including supervisors and maintenance technicians. Manage and execute the preventive maintenance (PM) program for all building systems and equipment. Conduct regular property inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety issues, and improvement opportunities. Coordinate and supervise major repairs, capital projects, and contracted maintenance work. Maintain documentation of work orders, inspection logs, PM schedules, and compliance records. Ensure all equipment and building systems comply with OSHA, fire/life safety, and regulatory standards. Manage inventory, tools, equipment, and parts to support efficient operations. Assist with the development and management of the engineering budget, including labor, supplies, and capital planning. Respond promptly to guestroom and public area maintenance calls. Work closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, and other departments to support guest satisfaction. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe engineering shop and mechanical spaces. Serve as the point of contact during emergencies and lead response efforts for system failures. Perform additional duties as assigned by property or regional leadership.
