About The Position

The Director of Engineering position is an exciting opportunity to join PM Group’s quickly growing Boston area team out of Burlington, MA. Together we are sharing knowledge, learning, growing, and continuing to be an integral part of supporting PM Group’s ongoing expansion in the US. Our office is executing cutting-edge projects for Pharmaceutical, Biologics and Cell & Gene Therapy, manufacturing facilities – from feasibility through to qualification – for both local and international clients. Together with our clients and partners, we will deliver projects that improve the everyday lives of people across the globe. This is a senior level leadership position within PM Group and we are looking for a professional who enjoys supporting clients by empowering technical excellence within their engineering team. The Director of Engineering will lead hiring, mentoring, and ongoing development of team members while ensuring technical delivery across all Engineering disciplines (including Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Process, Piping, Automation, Instrumentation, Process Safety and BIM). This role requires a deep understanding of life science design engineering and the ability to manage multiple complex projects and operational priorities simultaneously. Success will depend on maintaining a collaborative, client-focused approach and a strong work ethic. Engineering responsibilities will span all phases of design: feasibility studies, conceptual and schematic design, construction documentation, and construction administration including periodic travel to client sites. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering; Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred
  • 15+ years of design experience in a consulting environment, ideally within Life Sciences (Pharmaceutical, Biopharmaceutical, Cell & Gene Therapy)
  • Proven leadership in managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams and delivering complex projects
  • Strong technical expertise in conceptual and detailed design, with familiarity in BIM, 3D modeling, and advanced design technologies (Revit, AutoCAD, etc.)
  • Deep knowledge of industry standards, regulatory requirements, and Health & Safety compliance
  • Demonstrated ability to manage commercial aspects of projects, including cost control, resource planning, and risk management
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to build strong client relationships
  • Strategic thinker with experience in business development, proposal preparation, and converting opportunities into contracts
  • Strong organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills; able to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Track record of driving innovation and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Self-driven, results-oriented, and collaborative team player with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to integrate across diverse business sectors and work through complex challenges

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and mentor the Boston area Engineering Team, including all discipline and department managers, while setting the strategic direction aligned with corporate and local office objectives
  • Serve as a key member of the local business unit leadership team and represent PM Group with clients
  • Oversee conceptual and detailed design projects, ensuring compliance with PM Group’s Quality Management System (QMS) and industry standards
  • Drive technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement in engineering processes and tools (e.g., BIM, 3D modeling, design analysis)
  • Ensure each technical discipline maintains the required mix of knowledge, skills, and experience, and stays current with technology, regulations, and Health & Safety standards
  • Align engineering developments with group and local strategies, including multi-office execution and sectoral expansion
  • Manage commercial aspects of project delivery, including resource planning, cost control, utilization rates, and risk reviews
  • Support business development activities, proposals, and client relationship management
  • Promote training, professional development, and knowledge sharing across all engineering disciplines
  • Participate in conferences, networking events, and PM Group’s Technology Group as appropriate
  • Provide technical expertise during key project phases and act as Project/Design Manager when required
  • Maintain a strong presence in the local office and ensure compliance with PM Group HR policies and procedures
  • Foster collaboration among discipline heads to ensure coordination and efficiency in project execution
  • Represent PM Group positively with clients and develop strong customer relationships to win new work
  • Other support functions as needed
