About The Position

At BuildOps, we’re building a groundbreaking software solution, purpose-built to support today’s commercial contractors. From helping our customers manage their service department all the way to project management, we’re breaking the mold and building a team that invests in our mission statement. We love driven, self-motivated folks experienced in tech start-ups and thrive in fast-paced environments. Could you be our next hire? This candidate will join a well-funded, fast-growing technology startup with the unique opportunity to help build out a critical function for the company. As our Director of Engineering, FinancialOS, you will own the engineering strategy and execution for FinancialOS—the unified financial layer across the BuildOps platform designed to convert operational activity into auditable, accounting-grade transactions through ledgerization, platformization, and standardization.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading managers and teams in a high-growth SaaS or technology company
  • Proven track record defining architecture for complex, scalable systems including distributed systems, microservices, and cloud infrastructure
  • Demonstrated success building and scaling platform teams where multiple product teams depend on shared services and contracts
  • Strong understanding of accounting-grade transaction systems including immutable history, auditability, validation, period controls, and safe correction and reversal patterns
  • Experience delivering or partnering closely on ERP and accounting integrations, with an obsession for correctness, predictability, and reduced reconciliation
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to align cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an engineering strategy that delivers FinancialOS as a platform capability used across BuildOps
  • Build, lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing team of managers and senior ICs to execute on the FinancialOS vision
  • Establish engineering standards, operating rhythms, and best practices appropriate for high-stakes financial correctness and platform adoption
  • Partner with Product Management and other engineering leaders to align sequencing, tradeoffs, and adoption across the broader BuildOps ecosystem
  • Drive the architectural vision for FinancialOS, including a financial subledger that ensures every dollar-impacting event becomes a validated, period-aware, reversible, auditable transaction before syncing to an ERP
  • Lead platformization of money behavior across modules by centralizing financial services like tax, rounding and precision, currency treatment, and validation to eliminate inconsistent outcomes
  • Drive standardization across pricing and cost definitions, configuration, and coding and segment structures so financial outputs remain consistent and ERP-ready across all workflows
  • Define, track, and report key engineering and platform metrics including reliability, correctness, delivery velocity, and incident rates
  • Establish a quality bar appropriate for financial systems including traceability, deterministic behavior, safe correction flows, and robust validation
  • Continuously improve how the organization ships and operates as a platform engineering function.
  • Work closely with QA, Product, Customer Success, and Integrations teams to ensure FinancialOS is adopted cleanly and delivers real customer outcomes
  • Foster a culture of innovation, clarity, and accountability while operating across multiple teams and priorities.
  • Ensure the platform reduces reconciliation burden by producing clean, predictable ERP-ready financial outputs that align operations and accounting
  • Build with the realities of construction financials in mind, including out-of-order costs, corrections, accruals, and strict ERP requirements.
