Director of Engineering, Eval Platform
About The Position
The Eval Platform team owns the simulation and evaluation and validation platform that underpins autonomy development and driverless readiness validation. This platform is mission‑critical for both rapid iteration during development and rigorous validation used to assess safety, performance, and deployment readiness. We are looking for a seasoned engineering leader to lead the Eval Platform as a Director‑level role. This leader will define the technical vision, execution strategy, and organizational structure for a multi‑disciplinary org spanning simulation, evaluation infrastructure, and software‑driven operational workflows. The evaluation platform brings together data, simulation, metrics, and analysis workflows into a coherent system that allows the teams to: Iterate quickly to improve the autonomy performance Measure autonomy performance and risk with credibility and rigor Make confident, data‑driven decisions about driverless deployment
Requirements
- Deep technical expertise in building simulation systems, evaluation platforms for large‑scale ML / robotics systems
- Strong understanding of autonomy and validation, and how to build high quality tools for these use cases.
- Proven experience leading and scaling high‑impact engineering organizations, including managers and senior ICs
- Ability to translate complex technical signals into clear, actionable insights for senior leadership
- Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, high‑ambiguity environment
Responsibilities
- Define and own the technical vision and roadmap for the Eval Platform, spanning simulation, evaluation infrastructure, and software quality operations.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a multi‑team organization (managers and senior ICs), fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Build and scale simulation and eval capabilities that support both rapid autonomy iteration and rigorous validation use cases.
- Own the autonomy evaluation and validation platform, and partner closely with Autonomy and Systems leadership, ensuring it is reliable, scalable, and trusted by autonomy engineering, validation, and leadership
- Represent Eval Platform at the executive level, clearly communicating tradeoffs, progress, risks, and readiness
