Director of Engineering - Agentic Infrastructure

Advisor360Needham, MA
1d$253,000 - $294,000

About The Position

We are seeking a highly organized, execution-oriented Director of Engineering - Agentic Infrastructure to lead the "how" behind our AI engineering. In this role, you do not need to be an AI researcher or machine learning expert. Instead, we are looking for a powerhouse of delivery, collaboration, and organizational leadership. Your primary focus will be building the scaffolding, infrastructure, and team culture required to bring complex AI and agentic systems to production. You will guide technical implementation decisions, drive our compute and evaluation strategies, and ensure cross-functional alignment so that our engineering teams can build reliable, high-performing AI features at scale.

Requirements

  • Execution Over Theory: You are a delivery-focused engineering leader. You know how to take a complex roadmap, break it down, and ship reliable software. You do not need to write foundational ML models, but you must know how to build the infrastructure that runs them.
  • Leadership Experience: Proven track record of managing distributed teams, including managing managers and senior staff-level engineers.
  • Systems Thinking: Deep experience with cloud infrastructure, complex backend systems, compute cost-optimization, and scalable architecture.
  • Collaborative Powerhouse: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to bridge the gap between highly technical engineering teams, product managers, and business stakeholders.
  • Decisiveness: Strong analytical skills for making tough build vs. buy decisions and setting pragmatic technical standards.
  • We move fast: While we do have award winning existing platforms, we’re acting like a 0 to 1 startup on the AI front so you’ll need to be comfortable with a fast page, ambiguous environment

Responsibilities

  • People Leadership & Organization
  • Team Management: Provide direct management, mentorship, and support to key engineering leaders and individual contributors
  • Global Alignment: Provide both direct and matrixed technical direction and oversight for our US and Global team (Belfast and India)
  • Culture & Talent: Build and nurture a high-performing, execution-focused AI engineering culture.
  • Growth: Own hiring, performance management, career development, and the retention of senior technical talent within your organization.
  • AI Engineering Execution & Delivery
  • Roadmap Ownership: Take full ownership of the AI engineering roadmap execution, ensuring predictable, on-time delivery.
  • Quality & Reliability: Establish standards to guarantee the quality, performance, and uptime of our agentic and AI systems in production.
  • Technical Direction: Guide technical architecture and implementation decisions for scaling AI infrastructure.
  • Execution: Act as the ultimate blocker-remover. Streamline processes, untangle dependencies, and relentlessly drive execution.
  • AI Platform & Infrastructure Strategy
  • Resource Management: Define and execute our AI infrastructure strategy, encompassing compute optimization, cost management, and QA/Evaluation frameworks.
  • Strategic Decisions: Lead "build vs. buy" analysis for AI engineering tools, frameworks, and foundational model access.
  • Best Practices: Establish and enforce technical standards, guardrails, and best practices for AI software development across the organization.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Product: Partner tightly with Product Management to prioritize AI features, balance tech debt with innovation, and align engineering realities with product vision.
  • Data: Collaborate deeply with Data Engineering teams to ensure the reliability, quality, and pipeline efficiency of the data feeding our AI systems.
  • Go-to-Market: Support Sales and Customer Success teams by acting as an internal expert on our technical AI capabilities, infrastructure, and roadmap.
  • Security: Align rigorously with the Security and Compliance teams to guarantee AI system safety, data privacy, and regulatory adherence.
