About The Position

Inside the Role This role is one of two Level 3 directors within Product Integrity TN/PI, which inspires to be - The industry role model for compliance – to live the spirit of the law, not just the letter of the law. - An industry leader in shaping the new regulations such that they benefit the public health and safety, while providing our customers with new technologies at the speed of right. The Director of Emissions Compliance and Regulatory Affairs (CRA) is responsible for the emissions, GHG and OBD certification and post SOP compliance of the Detroit powertrain (including Zero Emissions); the GHG certification and post-SOP compliance of all DTNA, FCCC and TBB vehicles (including ZEVs); Detroit powertrain PCMS, and Detroit Reman / Aftermarket compliance support. The CRA department plays a crucial role in shaping the future emissions regulations in North America by working closely with EPA, ECCC, NSTSA, CARB and other state emissions regulatory bodies, as well as through EMA. We believe in our social responsibility to drive emissions reduction and aggressively lower our carbon footprint while balancing these efforts with technical feasibility and reduced economic impact that ensures successful implementation. While working with our external partners to achieve our goals, CRA is also working closely with engineering, series management, and product strategy to help define successful future product strategies and plans that meet all emissions regulations while satisfying our customer needs. Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 10 years of directly related experience with at least 6 years of leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate self and others via collaboration and good team skills
  • Demonstrated strategic foresight, ability to anticipate questions/next steps
  • Demonstrated strong written, verbal, and presentation skills required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in emissions compliance related activities or emissions development
  • Experience in interactions with EPA, ECCC, and/or CARB

Responsibilities

  • Manage and plan departmental budget, including external resources funding.
  • Lead all aspects of vision, strategy, and execution related to: Detroit on-highway powertrain emissions, GHG and OBD certification for North America.
  • DTNA/FCC/TBB vehicle GHG certification for North America.
  • Daimler Truck nonroad powertrain certification for North America.
  • All emissions, OBD and GHG post-SOP compliance activities related to all of our certified products. Activities include but are not limited to powertrain/vehicle emissions & defect reporting, in-use testing, various PVE tests / reports, volume reports, various GHG and NOx credit reports, OBD deficiency reports, emission recall reports, replacement and exempt labels, etc.
  • PCMS: Work with global PCM counterparts to align various strategic decisions and activities. Lead the local and support the global emissions TCC decision process. Lead all software screening activities for North America, LETD/AECD sign offs per the PCMS process, xSCR screening / approval for implementation, ICM approvals, E2P reviews, product compliance training activities, Advisor to aftermarket and Reman compliance.
  • Actively collaborate and work cross functionally with various parts of the organization to shape product strategies and negotiation tactics to position DTNA for success.
  • Lead and collaborate with global homologation partners (Europe, Japan, India) on best practices in compliance testing, compliance reporting, processes and tools.
  • Actively promote transcending compliance culture within the entire Daimler Truck organization.
  • Actively collaborate with EMA members representing DTNA’s best interest.
  • Domestic travel will be required to support face to face meeting with EPA, CARB and EMA members. Some international travel is possible.
