About The Position

Lead emergency services at a 585+ bed Level I Trauma Center in Kansas City, Missouri, recognized for comprehensive stroke, cardiac, and burn programs. This Director of Emergency Department role oversees 115+ FTEs across multiple sites including a 25-bed main campus ED (125 patients daily), the Brookside Freestanding ER (one of the busiest FSERs in the company with 105 patients daily), and expansion planning for a new FSER. The position reports to the CNO and provides strategic leadership for clinical quality, operational excellence, patient experience, and financial performance across high-volume emergency services. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or approved education plan
  • Minimum 2 years of recent acute care Director of Emergency Department experience (or strong ED manager running day-to-day operations as director)
  • Proven track record of strong metrics, performance achievements, and operational improvements
  • Demonstrated expertise in high-volume emergency operations, trauma care, and multi-site management
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills
  • Strong financial acumen and budget management experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field

Responsibilities

  • Direct all emergency services operations across multiple sites including staffing models, patient throughput, volume forecasting, and 24/7 departmental coverage.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based practices, policies, and procedures to advance patient safety, quality outcomes, and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage departmental budget including revenue forecasting, expense monitoring, labor productivity, supply utilization, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Foster accountability and collaboration through interdisciplinary communication, staff recognition, and employee engagement strategies.
  • Ensure efficient patient flow and care coordination through admission/discharge planning and collaboration across departments.
  • Monitor internal/external benchmarks, quality metrics, and patient satisfaction scores to identify performance gaps and implement improvements.
  • Build and retain high-performing teams through talent acquisition, competency development, coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Collaborate with physicians, administrative leaders, and subject matter experts to enhance services, develop programs, and drive ED growth.
  • Lead patient experience initiatives using feedback mechanisms and evidence-based practices to differentiate the organization as a healthcare leader.
  • Maintain equipment, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance per Joint Commission, CMS, and accreditation standards.
  • Execute strategic roadmap for emergency services expansion including new freestanding ER development.
  • Provide visible, energetic leadership that inspires commitment to organizational mission, vision, and values.
