We have an exciting opportunity to join our leadership team at BSA as the Nursing Director of Emergency and Trauma Services. Position Summary The Director of Trauma Services is responsible for the leadership, development, and coordination of the hospital’s trauma program in accordance with state and national standards. This role ensures compliance with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) trauma designation requirements and the American College of Surgeons (ACS) guidelines. The Director provides oversight of clinical operations, quality outcomes, regulatory readiness, and staff education related to trauma services, working collaboratively with medical staff, nursing leadership, emergency services, and ancillary departments

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Current Texas RN license required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 14 days of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Trauma Nurse Core Course and Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire.
  • 5 years of progressive nursing leadership experience, preferably in emergency, critical care or trauma services.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Certification as a Trauma Program Manager (CTPM) or Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN).
  • Experience with trauma program management, trauma registry, and ACS/DSHS survey processes strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and oversees all aspects of the trauma program, ensuring compliance with ACS and Texas DSHS trauma designation criteria.
  • Develops and implements policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure quality patient care throughout the trauma continuum.
  • Coordinates trauma program operations, including performance improvement, education, data management, and outreach.
  • Serves as liaison with EMS providers, community partners, and regional advisory councils (RACs).
  • Prepares and maintains trauma registry data and reports; analyzes trends to support continuous quality improvement.
  • Oversees trauma performance improvement and patient safety (PIPS) initiatives, ensuring timely case review and follow-up.
  • Collaborates with physicians, advanced practice providers, and nursing staff to enhance trauma care delivery.
  • Develops and manages departmental budgets, staffing, and resources.
  • Leads trauma designation and re-designation processes, ensuring documentation and survey readiness.
  • Provides leadership in staff education, competency validation, and professional development related to trauma services.
  • Acts as an advocate for trauma patients and promotes community awareness and injury prevention initiatives.
