About The Position

Piper Companies is seeking a Director of Direct Lending to lead the consumer loan department for a leading credit union. This role is responsible for executing risk-based assurance reviews of consumer credit portfolios, assessing credit practices, policy implementation, and risk governance. This position will be onsite in Hauppauge, NY!

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (minimum eight years in consumer credit underwriting)
• Minimum six years of progressive credit underwriting experience
• Minimum three years of leadership/supervisory experience
• Proficiency in DNA, credit report analysis, and loan origination systems
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with credit unions or financial institutions
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance and risk management frameworks
• Ability to manage complex projects and cross-functional teams

Responsibilities

• Oversee research, development, communication, and implementation of consumer lending policies
• Analyze lending data to identify risks, trends, and areas for improvement
• Ensure lending volume and profitability goals are met
• Maintain integrity and performance of all Consumer Lending Rules and Decisioning systems
• Build and maintain strong relationships with line of business management and risk management teams
• Conduct risk-based reviews of consumer lending operations
• Identify credit process weaknesses and emerging trends impacting daily operations
• Recommend solutions to close gaps in credit policy
• Collaborate with regulators and auditors to ensure sound credit review processes
• Manage consumer underwriters and admins to ensure timely completion of workloads
• Act as an advisor to business partners and maintain effective communication channels
• Partner with leadership on enterprise projects impacting consumer lending
• Manage Smart Decisioning Platform configuration, settings, and change processes
