The Director of Engineering, Core Lending, is responsible for leading engineering teams that design, build, and scale the core Loan management and servicing platform. This role requires strong technical leadership, domain expertise in lending products, and the ability to align engineering execution with business strategy. The director will collaborate closely with product, design, and other engineering leaders to deliver reliable, scalable, and compliant solutions for the Loans domain.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading multiple engineering teams and engineering managers.
  • Strong ability to influence stakeholders across product, engineering, and business.
  • Experience with scaling engineering organizations in a SaaS or fintech environment.
  • Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills
  • Deep understanding of lending systems (Loans lifecycle, servicing, payments, amortization schedules, compliance requirements, etc.).
  • Background in software engineering with modern cloud-based architectures (AWS, microservices, event-driven systems, etc.).
  • Strong foundation in software engineering with hands-on experience building cloud-native, event-driven, and distributed systems at scale.
  • Knowledge of data modeling, transactional systems, and regulatory/security concerns in financial platforms
  • Track record of driving large-scale product initiatives from concept to production.
  • Experience with risk and compliance in financial services (preferably lending/credit).
  • Ability to define and deliver on OKRs for engineering organizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven experience designing and implementing highly scalable, distributed systems in a production environment.
  • Previous experience in fintech or financial services with lending/credit products.
  • Experience working with both product engineering teams and platform engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems, data-intensive applications, and event-driven architectures.
  • Prior role as a Director or Engineering Manager managing multiple engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Define strategy, priorities, and execution plans for engineering teams working on the Loans product line.
  • Partner with the Product to set roadmaps, balance innovation with stability, and ensure product-market fit.
  • Work closely with peers (DevEx & LOC), infrastructure/platform teams, and compliance/security.
  • Hire, mentor, and grow engineering managers, technical leads and senior engineers, ensuring succession planning and healthy team structures.
  • Champion engineering excellence, accountability, and a culture of ownership, autonomy, reliability, and empathy.
  • Ensure the Loans & core lending platforms are scalable, resilient, and extensible for future growth.
  • Drive consistency of practices, tools, and patterns across Loans teams, and coordinate with other product areas.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to system performance, compliance, and maintainability.
  • Introduce new technologies and methodologies where they add business value (e.g., automation, observability, testing strategies)
  • Ensure projects in the Loans & core lending area are delivered on time, on scope, and with high quality.
  • Define and track KPIs (e.g., system reliability, velocity, customer satisfaction, compliance adherence).
  • Identify, design, and implement the right system and process metrics to monitor reliability, scalability, and product performance. Use these insights to guide prioritization, optimize operations, and detect problems before they impact customers.
  • Drive initiatives to improve engineering processes, CI/CD pipelines, developer productivity, and overall team effectiveness.
