About The Position

The Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Academic Programs will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the District’s strategic vision and pedagogical approach in academic programming, staff development, student achievement, and equity initiatives. Reporting directly to the Assistant Superintendent and serving as a key member of the Teaching and Learning Department, the Director will lead the District’s secondary level initiatives in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and accountability. This includes functioning as an instructional leader, supporting alignment with the District’s instructional vision and strategic plan, and contributing to the advancement of more equitable student outcomes. The Director is responsible for planning and facilitating instructional materials adoptions, maintaining a focus on high-quality professional learning and development opportunities for staff, and supporting professional learning communities to advance student achievement. Additionally, you will oversee and implement secondary academic program initiatives.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a master’s degree in education.
  • An Oregon Professional Administrator license, or the ability to obtain one in the near future.
  • A minimum of five successful years in licensed educational roles; experience as an administrator is preferred.
  • Experience at the high school level, in either a teaching or administrative capacity is required.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver improved academic performance for all student populations and deep understanding of effective instruction and systematic supports.
  • Demonstrated understanding of effective planning, organizing, and delivering high-quality professional learning and leadership development.
  • Deep understanding of curricular framework, pedagogy, and quality classroom materials; experience developing and implementing curriculum for secondary grade levels and subjects.
  • Strong knowledge of high-quality instructional practices and the ability to lead others to implement these practices consistently across classrooms and school sites
  • Knowledge and/or background of secondary academic programs like: Multilingual Education, Career Technical Education (CTE), and secondary-level electives and core content.
  • Demonstrated leadership in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Pursue the achievement of the District’s strategic plan and equity work.
  • Coach and support staff in evidence-based instruction, learning, and assessment practices.
  • Lead major initiatives in the District related to academic programming and student achievement.
  • Positively contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Teaching and Learning by leading and supporting Teaching and Learning Department initiatives.
  • Work with the technology team; help t o identify, research, test, and implement innovative integrated technology approaches and tools.
  • Advocate for curriculum, instruction, and technology needs, and liaise with the Board of Directors and District leadership teams.
  • Track and analyze data related to staff development and student performance.
  • Participate in and contribute to District leadership teams such as Administrative Council and the District Leadership Team.
  • Work with the Assistant Superintendent and Technology Team; recommend information technology strategies, policies, and procedures by evaluating organizational goals and outcomes, identifying problems, evaluating trends, and anticipating requirements.
  • Accomplish financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective action.
  • Maintain professional knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Supervise teaching and learning staff members, building principals, and/or technology staff members by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Compose, edit, and prepare technical and complex documents, correspondence, special reports, and material of a confidential nature.
  • Cultivate and model a respectful and customer-service focused working and learning environment.
