About The Position

The Director of Curriculum and Instruction will work with Chief Academic Officer and Director of Early Learning to provide programmatic leadership for CDCPS grades K1-1 to a network of campuses that are committed to the ongoing development and well-being of its students, teachers, and staff. The Director must embrace that all students given appropriate support, can master age-appropriate learning goals, and that our teachers must prioritize social emotional supports and relationship building while maintaining high academic expectations for all students. The Director should have significant expertise in creating and maintaining high quality learning environments and Massachusetts learning standards.

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • A valid Massachusetts license as an Early Childhood Education K1-2nd or Elementary Education 1-6 teacher is required.

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) and Director of Early Learning to create, lead, and support the development and implementation of standards-based curriculum across all network schools, including academic day and vacation enrichment.
  • Evaluate academic programming, curricula, and assessment for effectiveness.
  • Vision-setting with Network leadership team to develop strategic planning for academic initiatives to promote teacher-learning and student achievement.
  • Leads the vertical and horizontal alignment of network academic curriculum, including unit preview meetings, leader support for planning meetings, and facilitation of end-of-year curriculum reflection meetings.
  • Develops and maintains updates of curricula materials and resources as needed.
  • Works collaboratively with CAO, Director of Early Learning, Heads of School and Directors of Curriculum and Instruction to interpret testing data to improve student achievement.
  • Analyzes and incorporates data to create targeted action plans for grades and sections within schools
  • Facilitates assessment meetings with school leaders that incorporates information into effective action planning for selected grades and sections within the school
  • Supports instructional and curriculum integration of technology.
  • Supports Chief Academic Officer and Director of Early Learning in the development and/or facilitation of shared training and professional development opportunities for teachers, school leaders and program directors around common program elements and strategic initiatives.
  • Supports or leads grant initiatives related to grade level curricula
  • Supports the professional development and growth of schools and classrooms by providing coaching and lesson modeling for teachers as needed
  • Regularly scheduled observations and debriefs with school leaders and staff as appropriate
  • Trend observations for network to determine key foci for professional development and/or tiered support of leaders and school site staff
  • Classroom teaching as a method of real-time coaching and support of targeted action plans.
