About The Position

The Director of Contract Manufacturing will research new processing facilities nation-wide. With approval from the Vice President of SSC, this person will procure plants that best exhibit a history of high-quality production, integrate with CROPP's existing production network and facilitate the development of new dairy regions. This individual will be responsible for the entire relationship, including the negotiating and maintaining manufacturing & co-packing contracts. The Director of Contract Manufacturing will be responsible for expediting cost requests and other projects. They will work cross-functionally with cost accounting, packaging, R&D, and production to ensure accuracy of cost workups. In addition, they will work closely with our co-manufacturing partners to review actual cost of good variances, improve yields, and identify & implement reductions in cost of goods. Directly responsible for non-farmer cost of goods and cost savings initiatives. With a focus on new end use markets and customer opportunities, the Director of Contract Manufacturing will work closely with Sales to explore new ingredients and byproduct opportunities.

Requirements

  • Prefer 4-year degree in Business, Dairy or Food Production, Engineering, or related field.
  • Must be able to travel to facilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required to communicate complex information and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and exhibit flexibility to accomplish dynamic priorities.
  • Proficient in basic accounting concepts and principles
  • Conventional sales of excess, under-grade or by products.
  • Responsible for adherence to product quality and organic standards.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong preference for individuals with work experience in dairy or food plant supervision, co manufacturing management, or quality assurance.
  • Preference given to individuals with Project Management, Inventory Management, or Dairy experience.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for procurement and relationship of plants and contract manufacturing
  • Help facilitate new regions with new production plants.
  • Research dairy facilities which may become 3rd party facilities to manufacture products for CROPP.
  • Negotiate, implement, and maintain contracts with production facilities as necessary
  • Manage relationships with assigned processing plants
  • Ensures compliance with policies, quality and safety procedures, and fair employment practices.
  • Handles confidential information with discretion.
  • Work closely with Sales, Supply Chain, Customer Service and Transportation Management Services to ensure mutual goals are established, reviewed and achieved.
  • Collaborate with accounting on expediting & improving accuracy of PDR for non-innovation related costing requests
  • Monitor manufacturing yields and actual COGs; work directly with cost accounting to ensure yields and COGs are meeting targets
  • Work directly with production facilities to improve yields and COGs
  • Maximize organic utilization of byproducts and other ingredients
  • Assist in establishing ingredients and byproduct Sku’s to align with market needs
  • Work with Sales on identifying new end use markets and potential customer outlets for ingredients
  • Understanding of milk components and the products that can be derived from them.
  • Work on special projects as assigned.
