About The Position

The Director of the Office of Community Values provides strategic leadership for Colby College’s student conduct and academic integrity systems, overseeing the fair and equitable adjudication of policy violations. By integrating restorative practices, conflict resolution, and educational growth, the Director ensures individual accountability while cultivating a safe, inclusive campus culture rooted in shared community standards and holistic student support. Colby College seeks an experienced and strategic leader to oversee the Office of Community Values within the Dean of the College Division. Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Director provides leadership for student conduct and academic integrity processes, ensuring responses to alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct are fair, equitable, and grounded in restorative and educational principles. The Director manages the full lifecycle of conduct cases, including intake, investigation, and resolution; serves as a hearing officer for complex cases; and trains and advises student board members. Working closely with campus partners, the Director integrates restorative practices and conflict resolution into conduct processes while supporting students through accountability and growth. The role also includes maintaining accurate case records, communicating expectations and outcomes to stakeholders, and serving as a key member of the Behavioral Intervention team (BIT) and CARE Team to coordinate holistic support strategies for students in distress.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Law, or a related field preferred; Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in student conduct administration or higher education leadership.
  • Advanced knowledge of restorative justice, trauma-informed adjudication, and laws including Title IX, FERPA, and the Clery Act.
  • Strong mediation, dispute resolution, and analytical skills; ability to handle difficult situations with sensitivity and objectivity.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituencies.
  • Strong analytical ability, sound judgment, and the ability to handle difficult situations with sensitivity and objectivity.
  • Must have knowledge of student life issues that affect student success, such as, mental health, disabilities, sexual harassment, and assault, alcohol and drug abuse, and eating disorders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with multiple constituencies, including students, faculty, parents, alumni, and other campus colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Policy Development
  • Develop and review student conduct policies to ensure alignment with institutional values and legal requirements, including Title IX, the Clery Act, and FERPA.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive campus environment that emphasizes individual and collective accountability.
  • Integrate industry best practices in student conduct, conflict resolution, and restorative practices by staying abreast of current legal and professional developments.
  • Review and update the Student Handbook annually.
  • Adjudication & Conflict Resolution
  • Oversee the intake, investigation, and resolution of student conduct cases, ensuring a process that is fair, impartial and restorative.
  • Serve as a primary hearing office for complex cases and facilitate the formal adjudication process.
  • Exercise expert judgment in utilizing a spectrum of approaches, including mediation, conflict coaching, and facilitating dialogue.
  • Design educational sanctions and programming rooted in repairing interpersonal and community harm, helping students engage constructively with conflict in ways that reinforce learning and community restoration.
  • Work closely with the Academic Review Board to administer the academic integrity process and develop prevention-based education for the campus community.
  • Campus Collaboration & Support
  • Participate in a core member of the BIT and CARE Teams to coordinate holistic student support.
  • Oversee the On-Call system, including staff training and participation in the rotation.
  • Maintain clear lines of communication with the Dean of Students Office, Security, Residential Experience, and General Counsel, and other campus partners to address conduct issues and promote community standards.
  • Training & Data Administration
  • Develop and facilitate training for students, faculty, and staff regarding college policies and the accountability process.
  • Advise and train students and faculty serving as board members in conduct hearings.
  • Utilize the Maxient database to trace cases, monitor sanction completion, and provide statistical reports on behavioral trends.
  • Community & Divisional Expectations
  • Contribute to the Dean of Students Office, Dean of the College Division, and the Colby community through active participation in committees, department initiatives, and division-wide initiatives.
