About The Position

The Director of College Scouting will lead the development and execution of advanced scouting strategies, overseeing the evaluation and identification of top talent within Texas Football and other relevant programs. This leadership role is responsible for providing comprehensive, strategic insights and critical assessments to support recruiting and roster management, guiding key decisions to enhance the overall performance of the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in football operations, scouting or related fields, with a proven track record of success in player evaluation and team development.
  • Expertise in football recruiting at the collegiate and/or NFL level.
  • Advanced knowledge of college football, player evaluation techniques, and game strategy, particularly in a leadership role.
  • Professional demeanor and exceptional ability to represent the University of Texas and its Athletics Department with integrity, both internally and externally.
  • Proven leadership capabilities, including strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills that enhance collaboration with staff, student-athletes, alumni, and the broader community.
  • Exceptional character and ethical standards, demonstrated commitment to upholding the University’s Core Values, and a track record of excellence in all professional interactions.
  • Ability to lead a team in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment while maintaining a focus on long-term strategic goals.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the Scouting department.
  • Drive the strategic direction for player evaluation and scouting, ensuring alignment with team and program goals.
  • Oversee all aspects of player identification, evaluation, and roster management, providing expert guidance and recommendations to the General Manager and program leadership on high-priority prospects.
  • Direct the development and maintenance of advanced databases, video libraries, and analytical tools to support recruiting efforts and in-season performance analysis. Ensure that systems are continually updated to enhance efficiency and effectiveness across the scouting department.
  • Direct and supervise the creation and implementation of comprehensive player profiles, including detailed scouting reports, performance metrics, injury histories, and character assessments, to support informed decision-making.
  • Assist the General Manager and serve as a liaison between coaching staff, program leadership, and external scouts, fostering effective communication and ensuring that scouting reports and recommendations are shared promptly and accurately.
  • Oversee organization, cataloging, and dissemination of game footage and scouting materials to ensure accessibility and efficient review by coaching staff and relevant personnel.
  • Lead efforts to track and evaluate NCAA transfer portal activity, ensuring that scouting priorities and recommendations are aligned with team needs and strategic goals. Assist General Manager and program leadership to project transfer prospects into roster development.
  • Assist in leading and directing the planning and execution of Pro Day, recruiting events, and other high-profile athletic initiatives, ensuring they are executed at the highest level to align with the program’s recruitment and scouting strategies.
  • Lead and mentor scouting and recruiting team members, ensuring that all personnel are aligned with the program’s vision and work in a collaborative, efficient manner. Provide leadership in the ongoing development of best practices and operational processes across scouting and recruitment efforts.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Drive a UT or rental vehicle on and off campus.

Proactively seek guidance when unsure or unclear of a law, rule or policy applicable to you or your department/sport program. Actively participate in assigned education and training programs.
  • Comply with all laws, policies, rules and regulations set forth by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System, The University of Texas at Austin, NCAA, Conference, or other governing body, including state and federal laws. Annually obtain prior written approval and report all outside activities and outside income. Report knowledge of, or reasonable cause to believe, violation(s) of state or federal laws, policies, rules, or regulations of the University, Conference, or NCAA to IA ARMCS or IA HR. Fully cooperate with any investigation by providing complete and accurate information when requested to do so by Texas Athletics and/or the NCAA and do not influence others in any way during an investigation.
