About The Position

The Director of Collections & Recovery is responsible for leading, managing, and directing the daily operations of the Collections and Recovery teams. This role oversees all collection activities on delinquent loans, repossessed or foreclosed collateral, and the disposition of recovered assets. The position serves as a strategic leader and change agent, ensuring effective processes, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma Required
  • 8-10 years similar or related experience in collections required.
  • 8-10 years similar or related experience of leadership experience, including managing teams and overseeing operational performance.
  • Strong knowledge of collection and recovery functions and guidelines.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication, multi-tasking, attention-to-detail, prioritization, project management, and leadership skills.
  • Strong critical thinking, innovation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • A passion for people, innovation, and growth.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors Degree preferred.
  • Knowledge and previous experience with DNA Fiserv, temenos, Meridian Link, and office suite software (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; managing performance; rewarding and coaching associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Maintains expert-level knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements, including Regulation Z mortgage loss mitigation rules, NCUA requirements, CECL guidelines, CDIA credit reporting standards, loan modification rules, FDCPA, the Military Lending Act, and the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act.
  • Ensures all collections and recovery activities adhere to federal and state laws, internal policies, and established procedures.
  • Serves as the control point for approval processes to ensure compliance with credit policies, loan covenants, and procedural standards.
  • Establishes, monitors, and strives to exceed service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Identifies and implements operational efficiencies, collaborating with internal partners to improve processes and system workflows.
  • Reviews work completed by collectors and specialists, providing timely feedback and guidance for continuous improvement.
  • Works closely with Investigations, Risk Management, and other internal stakeholders to mitigate account fraud and support risk related activities.
  • Coordinates with department leaders to communicate and administer policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Maintains relationships with credit unions, trade organizations, attorneys, collection counsel, and vendors to stay informed on industry trends, economic changes, legislation updates, and technology advancements.
  • Participates in vendor management activities, including vendor performance review and oversight.
  • Directs collection efforts on delinquent accounts, including evaluating accounts for potential claims or legal action.
  • Ensures bankruptcy files are handled in accordance with policy and legal requirements.
  • Manages repossessed and foreclosed collateral processes, including payment of related expenses and coordination of timely asset disposition.
  • Collaborate with realtors and third parties to ensure REO properties are maintained and marketed appropriately.
  • Conducts in person field calls on pre foreclosure and foreclosure properties within Arizona when appropriate.
  • Supports internal and external audit and examination processes and ensures timely responses to audit findings.
  • Monitors internal audit results to identify areas for improvement and additional training opportunities.
  • Ensures timely handling of complaints, notices of error, and credit bureau disputes.
  • Provides accurate and timely operational, financial, and performance reporting to management.
  • Participates in the development, execution, and ongoing monitoring of the department’s annual operating and financial plan.
  • Participates in presentations and reporting to the Loan Review Committee and other committees as assigned.
