About The Position

The Director of Clinical Services coordinates and supervises clinical management, social work, therapy and case management services for the facility (Acute, Residential, and Group Homes). This person manages Social Workers and Therapists, including the Activity therapy department, under general direction of the Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW), with a minimum of 3 years post master’s relevant clinical experience required
  • Must show the ability to motivate and lead a team of approximately 20+ social workers, recreational therapist, and others
  • Current Alabama State license as an LCSW (most preferred), or equivalent
  • Must serve on interdisciplinary committees and teams as required
  • Demonstrate knowledge in teamwork and effective problem solving skills.
  • Handle With Care, 1st Aid, CPR training and certification required, and may be obtained during Orientation
  • MUST HAVE availability to attend an 8- business day Orientation from 8a-4p without interruptions.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the Clinical Services Department at the executive level and in consultation with the Medical Director, plan, develop and implement formal and organized clinical services programs as part of the therapeutic environment.
  • Strategically solve problems that encompass the larger view of the organization, and establish goals by utilizing an understanding of organizational dynamics in planning and problem solving.
  • Recommend a balanced staffing pattern with qualified and competent persons that address continuity of care, acuity needs, and census, assuring that hiring, disciplinary actions and termination procedures are conducted in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Develop and implement cost-containment efforts for clinical services; responsible for recommendations for space and other resources needed by the department in conjunction with Hospital Administration.
  • In collaboration with the Risk Manager and Unit Managers investigates critical incidents and complaints from patients, personnel and other departments and keep Hospital Administration informed, conducting investigations as necessary.
  • Serve on hospital committees as requested by administration or required by regulatory standards, directed at improving communication, coordination, and quality patient care.
  • Participate in inter-departmental and intra-departmental activities, directed at improving communication, coordination and quality patient care.
  • Make rounds on the units daily or as needed. Assure therapeutic and safe environment, patient’s rights, safety, and patient participation in their care.
  • Plan, develop, and coordinate the needs of the program with other disciplines, activities, and programs. Provide for staff support and assess integration of efforts in conjunction with Administration. Evaluate the effectiveness of all programs and make recommendations and changes as indicated.
  • Ensure an adequate system of communication and reporting is maintained between all staff members, as well as other departments involved in the ongoing operation of the program.
  • Meet with Medical Directors and Program Coordinators as needed to assess program needs and allow feedback.
  • Assure continuing staff effectiveness for assigned area of responsibility and provide counseling and guidance to individual staff. Provide on-going feedback to staff regarding their performance and formally evaluate staff on an annual basis per human resources.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled staff meetings to keep staff informed: identify employee concerns, resolve conflicts and provide the opportunity for input from staff in conjunction with Manager.
  • Services for determination of the qualifications and competence of therapy and social science personnel in conjunction with the Managers/Coordinators and assist in interviewing prospective staff.
  • Provides in-service and staff development for staff. Supervises social work and therapy staff consistent with department and hospital standards to achieve department objectives. Responding to crisis situations as necessary to ensure a continuity of care.
  • Contributes to overall treatment team by assisting in developing plans of care, formulating and reviewing plans and attending treatment team meetings as appropriate. Involves referred sources in treatment process and follow-up care.
  • Maintains accurate and precise documentation: progress notes, MTP’s, psychosocial history, discharge assessments and plans, charge sheets, and statistics. Completes documentation per P&P and in a timely manner. Provide direct care; utilize appropriate social work knowledge and skills in providing treatment to patients and their families.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of National Patient Safety Goals, and the policies and standards of accreditation entities including but not limited to Joint Commission, DHM, DHR and CMS, adhering to the highest standards of care, including those prescribed by HCBHS.
  • Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position.
