About The Position

The Director of Clinical Services as supervised by the Executive Director will ensure people will receive person-centered health services which meet or exceed state and federal regulations in all programs.

  • Highly developed organizational skills to simultaneously manage many responsibilities and stay current with all required paperwork and government audits and surveys.
  • Excellent written communication skills to ensure that proper information is always delivered in a professional and timely manner.
  • Nursing Degree and 8 years of experience required, preferably with people with disabilities.
  • Five years of leadership experience in a health care setting including: staff supervision, budget management, and strategic goal setting.
  • Effective Communication: Ability to clearly and respectfully communicate with residents, families, staff, and external agencies. Demonstrates active listening and ensures transparency in all interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures excellent health care is provided to all people supported by working with physicians, LPNs, RNs, and staff, to ensure appropriate, safe, and cost-effective Health Services.
  • Ensure consistent, quality Health Services, free from medical errors, is provided to people, according to their plan of care, through direct supervision of RN managers, LPNs, RNs, Health Services Department, Medication Administration Department, and ICF Therapist.
  • Collaborates with to provide nursing support when applicable to provide teamwork for Health Services across all programs.
  • Improves services for people by creating an Annual Program Plan to map out how the Health Services Program will implement the organization's Strategic Plan.
  • Improves services for people by setting short and long-term goals and measure progress to inform and shape operation procedures and practices of Health Services program. Works with QA to set these goals and establish quality measurement tools to ensure accurate data.
  • Improves services for people by developing and maintaining mechanism for tracking trends in the quality of nursing care services and analyzing data to initiate change as needed. Collaborates with QA or designee to devise program evaluation tools and analyze data.
  • Ensures the Clinical Services program operates at full capacity for all people by devising a departmental Management Plan which definitively outlines the entire infrastructure of the department, staffing, work flow, responsibilities, timelines, audits, forms used, data collected, etc. to streamline processes and maximize productivity, staff effectiveness and morale.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Department to create an annual budget that promotes cost effectiveness and adhering to it. Continuously explore avenues to provide cost containment and good stewardship of resources. Maintains cost within the approved budget.
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of the person is prioritized by preparing and implementing Plans of Correction in response to audits and surveys in consultation with quality support team, ICF team and other departments.
  • Prioritizes the safety and well-being of people by updating nursing policies, procedures, and practice guidelines to ensure they meet or exceed current state and federal licensure.
  • Prioritizes the safety and well-being of people by serving as chairperson for the Infection Control Committee, Medication Variance, HRC and participating or delegating nursing participation as a member of management to committees such as Reportable Events Management and any other pertinent committees that require a Health Services representative.
  • Oversight of the daily operations of Clinical Services Department including staffing, evaluations, training and disciplinary actions. Collaborates with Human Resources Department for guidance for disciplinary to ensure adherence to policy and procedures.
  • Promotes professional development to stay current with IDD trends.
  • Ensures staff adhere to agency policies and procedures by being familiarized with the organization's policy and procedure manual and DIDD policies for nursing services and by being knowledgeable of the Provider Manual.
  • Protects the person’s confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, federal, state, and the organization's regulations.
  • Collaborate with governing agencies that current trends and policies are followed. Guidelines from the state regulations and Board of Nursing in place for the Medication Administration Certification Program.
  • Ensure all people have staff that are properly trained and RN delegated with tasks not covered by orientation training. A system is in place to monitor RN delegation and parameters in place for the RN delegated tasks as ordered by the treating practitioner.
  • Provide for a system for Clinical Services to be on call 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. A Registered Nurse must be available for back-up when an LPN is utilized for on call duties. The Director of Clinical Services is available 24/7 for emergencies and consultation, along with being in the rotation of on-call.
  • Collaborates with all departments to ensure that the communication is smooth, transparent and meets the person-centered needs of people.
  • Serves as agency’s Medication Administration Trainer for new hire and tenure employees.
