JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Clinical Services position directs, administers, and coordinates the clinical activities functions of the organization in support of policies, goals, and objectives established by the Chief Executive Officer and Governing Board. The responsibilities of the position include the development, maintenance, and operation of systems related to the processes' associated with the referral, donation, placement and allocation of vital organs. These positions may be required on occasions to travel by company or personal automobile, or commercial aircraft to accomplish job responsibilities. The incumbent will have access to confidential material and needs to use discretion with this information and strictly adheres to the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance confidentiality policy. WORK SCHEDULE: The Director of Clinical Services position is a full-time position. Normal office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The employee may occasionally have to work evenings or weekends, as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare/related field of study required master’s degree preferred; licensed as a registered nurse, physician’s assistant, or equivalent experience and related training required.
  • A minimum of 5-10 years of management experience.
  • CPTC certified.
  • A working understanding of donation and transplant operations, processes and metrics.
  • Strong clinical background in organ procurement and allocation.
  • Functional skills related to performance and quality improvement, policy development, team performance, as well as, data, technical, analytical, problem solving, organizational and communication skills.
  • Excellent Communication skills required.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and to represent the organization publicly.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of team required.
  • Ability to interact with physicians, nurses, and health care administrators, vendors, and other business and government personnel in an effective and professional manner.
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills to confidently execute reasonable and sound decision making.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years of OPO clinical management a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the supervision and leadership of Organ Recovery Coordinators, Organ Placement Coordinators, Regional Supervisory personnel, Administrators on Call, and other designated staff as part of the Clinical Services leadership structure.
  • Collaborates with all levels of management to evaluate the organization’s goals and strategies opportunities.
  • Serves as primary working organizational contact for SRTR, FDA, CDC, applicable CMS issues to interpret and maintain data and information relating to TOSA’s compliance with aforementioned organizations and agencies.
  • Manages the operations of TOSA’s designated recovery centers and serves as TOSA’s primary liaison with their staff.
  • Works closely with the recovery center’s medical directors regarding operations, performance, staffing and supplies.
  • Manages TOSA’s relationships for improvement performance with external entities such as transplant centers, tissue & eye banks, labs, MEs, and JPs
  • Establishes department budget and financial controls.
  • Remains fiscally responsible with decision making and spending within the department.
  • Determines the need for policy development and clinical education based on performance and needs assessments for the Clinical Services staff.
  • Develops, maintains, and deploys policies and procedures relevant to the clinical functional services.
  • Develops, interprets, and analyzes data relating to the nature and volume of clinical activity including but not limited to referrals, approaches, consent rates, donor potential, preservation, organ allocation, and clinical management of potential donor patients.
  • Evaluates donor cases and clinical management protocols and procedures and assures continued development of clinical management to increase organ availability.
  • Works in collaboration with education and developmental teams to ensure effective and timely training practices.
  • Works with the VP & Chief Performance Officer to guide and coordinate quality planning, problem solving, and quality improvement through the application of appropriate metrics, workflow, and problem-solving tools focused on identified clinical processes and organizational tasks and functions.
  • Assures appropriate staffing levels in all regions and collaborates with the HR department in the recruiting, hiring, and onboarding process.
  • Keeps Executive Leadership informed on key functions of the position and progress related to key organizational issues and objectives including variances and plans to improve performance.
  • Collaborates with the Quality department to ensure ongoing process improvement and regulatory compliance, as well as collaboration on such initiatives as Quality Improvement and execution.
  • Works with other directors as required to collaborate on systems development, policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Develops and maintains positive and effective working relationships with internal staff as well as representatives of external entities with which the organization interacts.
  • Represents the organization and/or function at selected meetings or to selected organizations and presents reports and other information as requested
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support business operations as needed.
