About The Position

Position Summary: The Clinical Informatics Director supports the effective use of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and related clinical systems across the organization. This role collaborates with clinical, operational, and IT teams to optimize workflows, deliver training, support system upgrades, and ensure accuracy, security, and compliance in all clinical information processes. Serves as a key liaison between staff, leadership, and IT vendors to enhance patient care quality and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Informatics, Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Information Technology, or a related field (an Associate’s Degree in Nursing paired with relevant experience may be considered).
  • Experience supporting or working with an EMR or clinical information systems in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong communication and training skills with the ability to support clinical and non-clinical users.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze workflows, solve problems, and support process improvement.
  • Understanding of HIPAA privacy, security standards, and basic healthcare regulatory requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • RN licensure or other clinical background.
  • Experience in a critical access hospital, rural health clinic, or small healthcare organization.
  • Experience with EMR configuration, optimization, or system administration.
  • Project coordination or change-management experience.
  • Experience with quality reporting, interoperability, and data-driven performance improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide training and onboarding for staff and providers on EMR and clinical applications, including ongoing education and updates.
  • Create and maintain user guides, workflows, protocols, documentation templates, and reference materials.
  • Support EMR configuration, testing, upgrades, troubleshooting, system monitoring, and overall performance optimization.
  • Serve as the subject-matter expert for clinical and operational systems, including the EMR, policy and learning management platforms, AI-supported tools, e-prescribing applications, and other technology solutions; specific system responsibilities may change as organizational needs evolve.
  • Partner with clinical departments to standardize documentation, improve workflows, enhance communication, and support adoption of new technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, privacy, confidentiality, and data protection requirements; serve as HIPAA & Security Officer.
  • Conduct annual risk assessments and support quality initiatives, dashboards, provider scorecards, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Lead or support EMR-related projects including upgrades, implementations, workflows, vendor coordination, communication, testing, and training.
  • Act as a liaison between clinical users and the IT department to support communication, issue resolution, and continuous system improvement.
  • Support data integrity and standardized system processes to ensure accurate, efficient, and secure clinical information management.
