The Director of Clinical Informatics (DCI) is responsible for facilitation and leadership of Clinical Informatics by leading the implementation of and providing ongoing support for corporate/division/facility projects related to the electronic health record (EHR) including: standardization utilization integration optimization The DCI is responsible for development, coordination, support, completion of workflow mapping, project advancements, resources and implementation focused on Clinical Informatics initiatives. This includes (but not limited to) computerized provider order entry (CPOE) and documentation, EBCD, Meaningful Use and other technology that supports clinician workflow, Clinical Excellence scorecard and publicly reported data such as Leapfrog. The DCI will participate in the community of Clinical Informatics by working with facility leadership to ensure clinical applications are well supported throughout the facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, clinical degree preferred with strong healthcare facility experience.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of clinical experience in an acute care hospital setting.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Clinical/Healthcare Informatics, clinical.
  • applications support, or equivalent preferred.
  • Meditech experience is strongly preferred.
  • Must have previous experience facilitating large projects which include implementation of health technology.
  • Current (per State) RN license for RN applicants.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred ideally with focus on Health Informatics.
  • Nurse or Health Informatics Certification encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Implementation and support of facility-wide standardization, utilization, integration, and optimization activities related to the EHR and other clinical informatics initiatives.
  • Development, execution, and support of clinical informatics data to drive quality and performance improvement.
  • Development, execution, and support of education plan, tools and resources focused on the EHR and other clinical quality informatics initiatives.
  • Facilitation and facility project leadership of CPOE and Evidenced-Based Clinical Documentation (EBCD) and other technology implementations that support clinician workflow.
  • Assesses impact on clinical workflow and facilitate workflow redesign to gain maximum benefit of new technology.
  • Optimization of quality informatic tools to drive regulatory compliance, standardization, and quality patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Quality, Directors of Patient Safety, and Medical Staff Directors in SEA, FMEA, OPPE, and FPPE processes to drive quality outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Quality, service line directors, and front-line staff on clinical quality initiatives to advance the Clinical Excellence scorecard.
  • Collaborate with clinical IT Teams in the development of new EHR components to ensure most efficient clinical workflow.
  • Oversight of Evidence Based Order set review, approval, build and maintenance updates.
  • Ongoing monitoring of various EHR utilization trends. Identify gaps/areas of opportunity and develop action plans to address areas of concern.
  • Collaborate with IT&S to ensure standardization and compliance with best practice models, specifically as it relates to the integrity of the electronic health record.
  • Establishes regular communication with facility Chief Nursing Officers (CNO's) and Chief Medical Officer (CMO's) and engages them as key contacts regarding process and review of workflow analysis to identify workflow improvements.
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with the entire project team, clinical leaders, business leaders, IT&S leaders, and staff.
  • Provides input, updates and communication on clinical quality informatics initiatives at medical staff, leadership, and other hospital committees.
  • Identify gaps and opportunities in departmental process mapping of current state and the future state workflows.
  • Provide system and operations expertise for implementation of process & system changes.
  • Provide Go-Live support (elbow support) for clinical quality informatics initiatives.
  • Participate in systems training for project teams and serve as Super User for Clinicians.
  • Provides specialized support for physicians.
  • Design and develop education/training materials in CPOE, EBCD, etc. to support staff training and continued education in collaboration with Nursing Education as needed. (crosses over to nursing education).
  • Actively supports and promotes systems standardization, utilization, and best practices in clinical quality informatics.
  • Adheres to HCA Code of Conduct and Mission, Vision & Value Statement
  • Participates in special projects as needed and performs other duties as assigned.
