Join us in fueling our electric future. Voya Energy is seeking an experienced Director of Business Development to lead sales and customer acquisition. This role will drive growth by identifying, developing, and closing new customer opportunities across key sectors, including commercial & industrial (C&I), digital infrastructure, and energy & utility development. The ideal candidate has deep experience selling complex energy technologies and developing long-term strategic relationships and will bring a strong track record in originating and closing deals within distributed energy or adjacent markets, with the business acumen to translate customer needs into tailored energy solutions.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of business development and sales experience in the energy, digital infrastructure, or industrial sectors.
  • Proven success selling technology-driven energy solutions such as: Fuel cells Battery energy storage systems (BESS) Microgrids Fossil fuel generators Linear generators Other on-site or distributed energy technologies
  • Strong commercial negotiation skills and a demonstrated ability to close complex, high-value deals.
  • Deep understanding of the C&I energy landscape, customer economics, and project development cycles.
  • Excellent communication and executive presentation skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field

Responsibilities

  • Customer Discovery: Engage customers to discover unmet needs and evaluate product offerings; provide feedback/information to Voya’s product development team.
  • New Business Generation: Identify, qualify, and develop new business opportunities across target markets.
  • Relationship Development: Build and maintain strong executive-level relationships with key customers, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Sales Leadership: Lead the sales process from opportunity creation through contract execution, including proposals, pilots, and full-scale adoption.
  • Value Analysis & Solution Design: Work cross-functionally to analyze customer economics, value proposition, and solution benefits.
  • Market Strategy: Contribute to go-to-market strategy, pricing, and customer engagement frameworks for generator and fuel offerings.
  • Pipeline Management: Maintain accurate forecasting, reporting, and pipeline visibility through CRM systems.
  • Thought Leadership: Represent Voya Energy at industry events, conferences, and customer engagements as a trusted energy advisor.
