About The Position

The Director of Business Development (DBD) serves as a senior leader responsible for driving sustainable organizational growth through strategic planning, branding and marketing leadership, referral development, portfolio diversification, and oversight of intake and admissions operations. This role provides unified leadership across marketing, branding, and intake to ensure consistent messaging, efficient referral conversion, and alignment between growth initiatives and operational readiness. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in business, Marketing, Administration, Public Health, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in business development, marketing, sales, or growth leadership within healthcare, behavioral health, education, or human services.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing multidisciplinary teams, including marketing, intake/admissions, or outreach staff.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing strategic growth plans, expanding service lines, and diversifying revenue portfolios.
  • Experience managing budgets, forecasting growth, and aligning financial performance with organizational goals.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a compassionate, professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute innovative business development, marketing, and branding strategies that support organizational growth and differentiation.
  • Leverage data, analytics, and technology to track referral sources, conversion rates, market trends, and return on investment.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve intake-to-admission workflows in collaboration with the Intake Coordinator and operations leadership.
  • Ensure all business development, marketing, and intake practices comply with regulatory, payer, and organizational standards.
  • Maintain ethical referral practices, transparent reporting, and accurate representation of BHA services.
  • Oversee confidentiality, HIPAA compliance, and appropriate handling of sensitive referral, family, and organizational information.
  • Serve as a visible ambassador for BHA within the community, with referral partners, and across professional networks.
  • Advocate for individuals, families, and communities by expanding access to appropriate services through strategic growth initiatives.
  • Ensure intake and marketing messaging reflect compassion, accuracy, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Ensure each referral is reviewed holistically and fairly, advocating for appropriate placement and supports.
  • Coordinate intake reviews with clinical, education, and operations leaders to determine appropriateness and readiness.
  • Communicate admission decisions respectfully and professionally to families and partners.
  • Stay informed on regulatory, funding, payer, and policy changes that may impact growth, admissions, or service delivery.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging service models, and competitive landscapes to inform strategic planning.
  • Provide mentorship, professional development, and performance feedback to marketing and intake teams.
  • Ensure intake and referral experiences are responsive, respectful, timely, and family-centered.

  • Lead, coach, and evaluate marketing, intake, and business development staff.

  • Maintain a regular on-site presence across BHA programs and locations to ensure alignment between growth strategy, branding, and service delivery.
  • Visit and engage with individuals served, families, and frontline teams to understand the lived experience and ensure development efforts reflect real needs.
  • Observe program operations to ensure marketing, referral messaging, and intake criteria accurately represent services and capabilities.
  • Strengthen relationships with site leaders and staff to support collaboration, trust, and alignment between growth initiatives and operational realities.
  • Use insights gained from site visits to inform strategic planning, service development, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned to support Business Development and organizational initiatives.
  • Participate in development-related committees and organizational initiatives.
