Director of Business Development

Virta Health
12d$164,430 - $192,670Remote

About The Position

Virta Health is on a mission to reverse metabolic disease in one billion people. Current treatment approaches aren’t working—over half of US adults have either type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, and obesity rates are at an all-time high. Virta is changing this by helping people reverse their metabolic condition through innovations in technology, personalized nutrition, and virtual care delivery reinvented from the ground up. We have raised over $350 million from top-tier investors, and partner with the largest health plans, employers, and government organizations to help their employees and members restore their health and take back their lives. Join us on our mission to reverse metabolic disease in one billion people. The Director of Business Development will spearhead Virta’s efforts to identify, vet, and launch new strategic partners—especially those in the rapidly evolving metabolic health and GLP-1 ecosystem. This highly external-facing role will expand Virta’s reach by creating new channels, securing innovative collaborations, and shaping the future of our partner strategy. In addition to ecosystem development, this leader will drive Virta’s growth initiatives within the government sector, including opportunities with Medicare, CMMI, and the VA. You will thrive in this role if you can operate as a strategic thinker and hands-on builder, translating landscape insights into partnership opportunities that drive measurable impact. The ideal candidate is a credible communicator, a disciplined operator, and an ambassador for Virta in both commercial and government settings. East Coast–based candidates are strongly preferred due to the potential for travel to Washington, DC.

Requirements

  • 5-10+ years of experience in healthcare strategy, business development, partnerships, or related roles.
  • Proven experience sourcing, structuring, and launching strategic partnerships.
  • Deep understanding of the healthcare industry—ideally including payers, benefits design, virtual care, digital health, government programs, or GLP-1/weight-loss ecosystem dynamics.
  • Exceptional communication and executive-presence skills, with the ability to represent Virta credibly to external leaders.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to develop frameworks, build business cases, and drive alignment across complex stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success working cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, Clinical, Sales, Legal, and Government Relations.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment with evolving priorities.
  • East Coast location (or willingness to relocate) to support DC travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with GLP-1 prescribing models, PBM dynamics, benefits models, or metabolic/weight-loss care.
  • Served in a similar role at another “scaled” digital health company

Responsibilities

  • Identify and prioritize high-value ecosystem partners across the weight loss and GLP-1 landscape, including digital health, PBM/benefits players, care delivery models, and emerging innovators.
  • Lead end-to-end partnership development, from initial outreach and diligence through business case creation, contracting, and successful launch.
  • Drive Virta’s government business development strategy, advancing opportunities with Medicare, CMMI, and the VA and cultivating relationships with key federal stakeholders.
  • Represent Virta credibly in external settings, clearly communicating our clinical outcomes, economic value, and differentiation to executives, policymakers, and strategic partners.
  • Create cross-functional alignment internally with Sales, Marketing, Clinical, Product, Legal, and Operations to evaluate feasibility, coordinate execution, and ensure smooth handoffs and GTM launch.
  • Build scalable frameworks and processes that systematize how Virta evaluates, prioritizes, and executes new partnership opportunities, while also ensuring internal stakeholder alignment on partner selection.
  • Monitor industry and policy trends to anticipate shifts in the GLP-1 ecosystem and federal health programs, translating insights into strategic recommendations.
