About The Position

The Director of Athletics and Safety serves as the district’s chief administrator for comprehensive athletic programs and all safety and security operations. This position requires an exceptional leader who can simultaneously manage complex athletic operations while ensuring the safety and security of all students, staff and facilities across the district.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Education, Juvenile Justice, Law Enforcement, Law, Public Administration, Social Science, Emergency Management, or other applicable fields. Additional qualifying experience and certification may substitute for the educational requirement.
  • Three (3) years of increasingly successful experience in safety program management, crisis intervention, security management, education administration, or other applicable fields.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license and proof of current insurance.
  • First Aid/CPR and AED certification, or willingness to obtain.

  • Three (3) years’ experience in overseeing safety and security for large, multi-facility organization, preferably in a K-12 educational setting.
  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate or professional safety certification

Responsibilities

  • Lead the District Athletic Program including policy update and communication, employee training, and compliance with WIAA regulations.
  • Perform personnel functions (hire, evaluate, supervise, develop) for the purpose of enhancing productivity of personnel and achievement of district goals.
  • Coordinates WIAA certification and eligibility program.
  • Schedules athletic events, activities, and maintains athletic calendar.
  • Supports arrangement of transportation, officials and event workers.
  • Supervises games and ensures compliance for health, safety and conduct regulations for participants.
  • Required supervision at district athletic events outside the regular workday.
  • Coordinate all facility needs used for Goddard Stadium including equipment and facility needs for games played at the stadium.
  • Coordinate First Aid/CPR/AED classes offered within the district.
  • Serve as a member of the MECU Negotiations team.
  • Serve as the District Hearing Officer and Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (HIB) Officer.
  • Manages the district’s safety & security program to ensure the highest degree of safety of students, staff, and the community in and around district facilities.
  • Plans and provides staff training in areas of emergency preparedness, security, and safety subjects.
  • Supports development of site-specific emergency plans in collaboration with building administrators.
  • Coordinates annual updates of the Emergency Operations Plan for each location.
  • Ensures all schools meet state requirements for emergency drills.
  • Maintains professional relationship with local fire, police, and emergency management or first responder agencies.
  • Serves as initial point of contact and liaison with related agencies.
  • Responds to district emergencies outside the regular workday, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Assists in incident investigation as necessary.
  • Ensures district compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws as well as district policy and procedures.
  • Serve as District Lead on multi-disciplinary threat assessments, which include leading Level 2 District threat Assessments when necessary.
  • Provide training and updated materials for schools.
  • Leads district safety committee
  • Oversee the School Resource Officer (SRO) and building security programs.
  • Coordinates with school administrators and appropriate municipalities or government agencies regarding SRO assignments and services.
  • Oversee hazardous materials compliance and chemical hygiene officers.
  • Hires, supervises, and evaluates assigned safety and security staff.
  • Perform other duties of similar scope and function.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and confirm regular work hours specified under contract.
