About The Position

Assessment & Continuous Improvement • Lead the design, implementation, and oversight of the College’s comprehensive assessment system, including program and student learning outcomes, key assessments, surveys, and performance metrics. • Establish standards and processes for data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting to support evidence-based program improvement. • Provide leadership and training to faculty on developing rubrics, measuring learning outcomes, and effectively using institutional assessment platforms such as Nuventive and Watermark, as well as Canvas for course-level assessment integration. • Utilize assessment data and institutional metrics to inform program review, curriculum refinement, accreditation readiness, and strategic planning. • Develop dashboards, scorecards, and reports that translate findings into actionable insights for diverse audiences. • Conduct equity-focused analyses to identify gaps in student participation, performance, and outcomes and recommend evidence-based interventions. Accreditation & Program Approval • Lead accreditation strategy and readiness efforts, including preparation of self-studies, evidence documentation, and coordination of site visits for state and national accrediting bodies (e.g., CAEP, SACSCOC, InTASC, CACREP, and state agencies). • Ensure compliance with state licensure requirements, educator preparation standards, and program approval processes. • Oversee preparation and submission of required accreditation, accountability, and state reporting documents. • Prepare and disseminate annual program performance and accreditation reports for internal and external stakeholders. • Coordinate program approval and review cycles to ensure alignment with accreditation standards and continuous improvement processes. Data Systems, Governance & Reporting • Provide executive oversight of assessment and data management systems, including Nuventive, Watermark, Canvas, and related university systems, ensuring effective integration, reporting accuracy, and alignment with accreditation requirements. • Establish and maintain data governance protocols to ensure integrity, privacy, FERPA compliance, and appropriate data stewardship. • Collaborate with Institutional Research and campus partners to integrate multiple data sources for comprehensive reporting and analytics. • Serve as liaison for assessment-related technologies and vendor relationships. Leadership & Collaboration • Serve as a member of the College leadership team, contributing to strategic planning and policy discussions. • Supervise assessment-related staff and graduate assistants, including setting priorities, managing workflows, and supporting professional development. • Lead or coordinate college-level assessment and accreditation committees. • Provide professional development and consultation to faculty and staff related to assessment design, survey methodology, data literacy, and continuous improvement. • Represent the College at institutional, state, and national meetings related to assessment and accreditation. • Monitor changes in state and national educator preparation policy and communicate implications to College leadership. Research & Reporting Support • Consult with faculty regarding the use of program-level assessment data for research and scholarship. • Support grant reporting and research initiatives requiring assessment data and outcome metrics. • Identify emerging trends in educator preparation and assessment and communicate implications to College leadership.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience with state and/or national accreditation processes.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills.
  • Experience designing and implementing assessment tools (e.g., rubrics, surveys, learning outcome frameworks).
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or similar) and data management systems.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across diverse stakeholders.
  • Virginia State University requires that faculty be appropriately credentialed to teach assigned courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. VSU demonstrates compliance with its Faculty Credentialing Policy #2301 for all applicable education, experience, licensure and certification requirements in the selection and hiring of its faculty.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate preferred.
  • Experience in educator preparation and/or teacher licensure environments.
  • Knowledge of state program approval processes and national accreditation standards (e.g., CAEP, SACSCOC, CACREP).
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience integrating decentralized datasets and developing dashboards for leadership decision-making.
  • Experience with assessment platforms such as Nuventive, Watermark, or similar systems.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) for assessment data collection and reporting.
