About The Position

The Director of ASM Staff and Programs provides leadership and management to the advising and financial services staff in the Associated Students of Madison (ASM). Provides direct supervision for the SSFC Funding Advisor/GSSF Program Manager, General Student Services Fund Advisor, Leadership and Advocacy Program Manager, and the ASM Advisor. In addition, provides indirect advising support to the Financial Specialist positions within the department. This role serves on the Student Affairs Council, Student Affairs Leadership Group, and the Student Advocacy Leadership Teams within Student Affairs. The director serves as an advisor to the Student Activity Center Governing Board (SACGB) Chair and supports SACGB, serves on the Student Transportation Board, and is an advisor to the Contracted Student Services Board. The Associated Students of Madison (ASM) is the shared governance body representing the over 50,000 students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. This position requires a strong commitment to student-led governance, an understanding of navigating large complex organizations, a dedication to supporting staff professional development, expertise in facilitating and coordinating training sessions, experience working with a diverse student and staff team, and a commitment to continually engage in best practices to support student and staff success.

Requirements

  • A strong commitment to student shared governance
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and facilitate student advocacy programs that enhance student learning, development, and success
  • Experience providing strategic direction, setting goals, and overseeing day-to-day operations
  • Ability to develop, implement, and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and university guidelines
  • Experience supervising staff, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management
  • Budget management experience, encompassing planning, monitoring, and responsible resource utilization
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across campus with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
  • Understanding of student development theory as it pertains to supporting and advising student leaders to promote student success

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the liaison by collaborating with internal and external stakeholder groups and providing organizational information
  • Oversight of assessment initiatives and key performance indicators in ASM
  • Facilitate monthly or as needed reports for student leaders on the ASM Internal Budget and serve as the primary point of contact for the ASM Vice Chair
  • Serve as the ASM advisor to the Press Office Director, SACGB Chair, and regularly attend and engage in the Student Activity Center Governing Board (SACGB), Student Transportation Board, and Contracted Student Services Advisory Board
  • Develops and audits the budget
  • Develops operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and objectives
  • Advise and connect regularly with individual student leaders including the ASM Chair, ASM Vice Chair, SSFC Chair, and SSFC Vice Chair within ASM and attend Student Council meetings
  • Directs strategic planning initiatives and establishes objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative and staffing resources, and alignment with the strategic plan
  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
