About The Position

The Director of Aircraft Modification – Passenger-to-Freighter (P2F) Programs is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational execution, and financial performance of aircraft conversion programs. This role oversees the end-to-end modification process, including engineering integration, production planning, regulatory compliance, supplier coordination, and delivery of converted freighter aircraft to customers. The Director ensures all P2F modifications meet regulatory requirements, schedule commitments, cost targets, and quality standards while driving operational efficiency and continuous improvement across modification programs.

Requirements

  • 12–15+ years of experience in aircraft modification, MRO, aerospace manufacturing, or engineering programs
  • 5–10 years in leadership roles managing complex aviation or aerospace programs
  • Direct experience with Passenger-to-Freighter conversions or major aircraft structural modifications
  • Airframe and Powerplant license

Responsibilities

  • Directs the aircraft modifications functions
  • Lead and manage all Passenger-to-Freighter conversion programs across multiple aircraft platforms (e.g., narrowbody and widebody)
  • Oversee program lifecycle from aircraft induction through modification, certification, and redelivery
  • Establish program strategies, schedules, and resource plans to meet customer delivery commitments
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the P2F conversion
  • Coordinate closely with engineering teams responsible for structural modifications including: Main Cargo Door (MCD) Floor beams/Cargo Handling System (FB/CHS) Supernumerary (SPNUM) Center Wing Box/Horizontal Pressure Deck (CWB/HPD) Rigid Barrier/9G (RB) Cabin Close (CC) MOD Avionics
  • Ensure compliance with certification requirements from regulators such as the Federal Aviation Administration and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency
  • Oversee Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) implementation and configuration control.
  • Direct modification operations within MRO or conversion facilities
  • Manage MOD schedules, workforce planning for MOD on aircraft throughput
  • Coordinate with supply chain teams to ensure timely availability of modification kits and long-lead components
  • Monitor key performance indicators including cycle time, cost, quality, and on-time delivery
  • Manage program budgets, revenue forecasts, and cost performance
  • Ensure programs meet financial targets and margin expectations
  • Identify cost-reduction opportunities and operational efficiencies
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers
  • Provide program status updates and executive briefings
  • Coordinate with internal leadership across engineering, quality, procurement, and operations
  • Ensure all modifications comply with regulatory, safety, and quality requirements
  • Drive a strong safety culture within modification operations
  • Support regulatory audits and certification activities
  • Lead cross-functional teams including program managers, engineers, planners, and operations staff
  • Mentor and develop leadership within the modification organization
  • Promote continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles
