About The Position

The Director of AI Data Center Design will lead the execution of CleanSparkâs AI data center design programs, ensuring delivery of scalable, standardized, and construction-ready infrastructure solutions. This role is responsible for translating established Basis of Design (BoD) standards into fully coordinated engineering designs across electrical, cooling, controls, and network systems. The Director of AI Data Center Design will oversee design execution across multiple programs or regions, ensuring alignment with operational requirements, constructability, and deployment timelines. This role plays a critical part in advancing CleanSparkâs modular, repeatable infrastructure strategy by driving consistency, quality, and efficiency across all design deliverables. The Director will partner cross-functionally with Product, Power, Construction, and Operations teams to ensure seamless design integration and successful handoff for execution. This role requires strong technical leadership, systems thinking, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Requirements

This role requires up to 50% travel.
Candidates must be based within one hour of a major U.S. airport to support travel requirements
Bachelorâs degree in engineering, Architecture, or a related technical field.
8â10+ years of progressive experience in engineering design, with a focus on data centers, mission-critical infrastructure, or industrial environments.
Proven experience delivering coordinated, multi-disciplinary design packages for large-scale infrastructure projects.
Strong understanding of MEP systems and integrated facility design.
Experience with BIM tools and digital design coordination environments.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage multiple projects or workstreams simultaneously.
Strong problem-solving skills with a systems-oriented mindset.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
This position may involve duties that require operation of a company vehicle or travel between job sites. As such, candidates must be insurable under CleanSpark's vehicle insurance policy.

Nice To Haves

Experience in data center or high-performance computing (HPC/AI) environments.
Familiarity with modular infrastructure design and DfMA principles.
Experience supporting design standardization or platform-based infrastructure programs.
Exposure to commissioning processes and design-for-operations practices.
Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent certification.

Responsibilities

Lead the development and delivery of coordinated, construction-ready design packages across assigned programs, regions, or system scopes.
Translate Basis of Design (BoD) requirements into detailed engineering designs that are scalable, repeatable, and aligned with CleanSpark standards.
Ensure design outputs meet quality, schedule, and performance expectations.
Oversee integration across electrical, cooling, controls, and network systems to ensure cohesive and optimized infrastructure design.
Ensure designs are fully coordinated across disciplines, addressing constructability, efficiency, and operational performance.
Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) principles to support modular, repeatable infrastructure deployment.
Drive consistency and adherence to standardized design frameworks, minimizing unnecessary customization.
Oversee BIM models and digital design environments, ensuring accuracy, coordination, and clash-free design deliverables.
Ensure designs are fully validated for constructability and field execution.
Partner with Product, Construction, and Operations teams to ensure alignment between design intent and project execution.
Support site planning, phasing, and infrastructure layout decisions within assigned scope.
Ensure design readiness for factory and site commissioning activities.
Lead and develop a team of engineers and designers, ensuring accountability, performance, and delivery consistency.
Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to support team growth and capability development.
Work closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to resolve design challenges and ensure alignment across functions.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design processes, efficiency, and scalability.
Participate in strategic initiatives related to infrastructure standardization and scaling.
Support special projects and additional duties as assigned.
