About The Position

At Camp Fire Alaska, we believe every youth has a spark waiting to be ignited. Through engaging programs and community partnerships, we empower young people to find their spark, lift their voice, and discover who they are. We’re looking for a dynamic Director of After School Programs to bring strong strategic leadership, inspire teams, build meaningful partnerships, and ensure every program delivers safe, high-quality, and equitable experiences that help youth thrive The Director of After School Programs begins each day reviewing enrollment, staffing, and key updates to anticipate needs and support teams across the various program locations. Much of the day is spent leading and mentoring program managers, collaborating with internal partners on budgeting, operations, and enrollment strategy, and using data to guide continuous improvement. Afternoons often include connecting with schools, community partners, and visiting program sites to ensure quality, safety, and consistency. Throughout the day, the Director balances strategic planning with hands-on problem-solving by addressing challenges, supporting staff, and keeping youth experience at the center of every decision so that Camp Fire Alaska’s after-school programs remain safe, engaging, and mission-driven. No two days are ever exactly the same, but each day is grounded in strategic leadership, relationship-building, and a deep commitment to creating high-quality experiences where youth can discover the best in themselves and others. To be successful in this role, the Director of After School Programs must combine strong leadership with strategic thinking and a deep commitment to youth development. Key skills include the ability to lead and coach diverse teams, communicate clearly across multiple levels of an organization, and build productive relationships with schools, families, and community partners. Strong organizational and time-management skills are essential for balancing competing priorities across multiple sites, while data literacy and financial awareness support informed decision-making and sustainable program growth. Just as important are sound judgment, emotional intelligence, and crisis-management abilities, which allow the Director to navigate challenges calmly and ensure that every decision reflects safety, equity, and the organization’s mission.
