Under the supervision of the Dean, the Director of Advanced Manufacturing Labs provides individual project and program coordination in support of the School's mission. Additionally, the position provides coordination services/support for grants, contract training, non-credit enrollment and other program needs; conducts assessment, research, program implementation, and growth of new and existing credit and non-credit programming in collaboration with academic program coordinators as necessary. Leads a team of high performing technicians.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of various types of quality/inspection laboratory analytical equipment such as mechanical, thermal and electronic equipment, including computer hardware and software
  • Ability to troubleshoot and fix technical equipment
  • Relevant technical skills include but are not limited to: electronics, mechanical trouble shooting and repair, automation and robotics, and software expertise that may include but not be limited to PCDIMS, Mastercam, and Solidworks software.
  • Over acquisition of related equipment and subsequent inventory of lab tooling, supplies, and equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, evaluate, and guide lab technicians
  • Microsoft Office skills required, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel (including data analysis)
  • Working knowledge of Google functions (Calendar, Google Docs, etc.)
  • Ability and willingness to learn new software and applications as needed
  • Ability to anticipate needs and workflow; self-starter; excellent organizational skills
  • Requires excellent written and oral communications skills; skills in research, information gathering, monitoring, and sharing
  • Ability to assess and recommend solutions to problems
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to take initiative, act with flexibility and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work well independently and in a collaborative manner
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adjust as necessary

  • Bachelor degree required
  • At least five (5) years of demonstrated supervisory experience
  • Positive proven work track record
  • Valid Driver's license and insured vehicle
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Corporate and/or other higher education experience a plus
  • Professional work experience may be considered for substitution of degree requirement

Responsibilities

  • Carries out administrative functions relevant to the position
  • Supervises staff as assigned - includes assignments, payroll, contracts, evaluations
  • Schedules training, staffing and resource (mobile labs) assignments
  • Collaborates on the marketing/sales of workshops and non-credit training
  • Develops workshop curriculum
  • Develop, improve, update and teach related workshops and labs
  • Supports the billing and invoicing process for non-credit training and workshops
  • Supports program needs for credit and/or non-credit programming to include maintenance of students' records, coordinate special events/projects/programs within the School; support contract and payroll functions; draft letters and contracts; develop marketing strategy with associated directors; and all other efforts as necessary
  • Works with the Dean on related budgets, including, but not limited to School and grant budgets
  • Resolves program problems and inquiries; serves on university committees as appropriate
  • Recruits for instruction and other program area needs
  • Coordinates with internal and external partners
  • Conducts research as necessary on programs, products, companies, etc.; organizes and analyzes data to prepare reports and documents as needed and summarizes findings for grants and other program needs
  • Coordinates various grants and related programming functions as needed. These functions and roles include, but are not limited to instructional recruiting, identification of other needed resources (locations, books, class materials), record keeping, data entry, reporting (finances, registrations, etc.); assisting program director(s) with other aspects of program and grant related functions
  • Represent the university for presentations at local, state, regional, and national levels as needed
  • Serves as liaison with IT and other university departments to ensure School needs are known and addressed in relation to their duties
  • Serve in various roles (site coordinator, proctor, etc.) for affiliations and professional organizations associated with non-credit training
  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed, or the situation dictates.
  • Provides and participates in professional development and training keeping current with relevant trends.
  • Assists other School staff as needed to promote a team environment.
