About The Position

Under the general oversight of the Associate Provost for Operational Success, the Director of Academic Resources will play a lead role in assisting the planning of academic resource allocation and overseeing academic resource expenditures for the Provost and Division of Academic Affairs. The Director will support the Vice Provost/Provost in divisional budget planning; provide projections and analyze financial impacts; deliver guidance to administrative staff, Deans, and Directors in the interpretation of CSU policies and practices; act as fiscal and administrative officer for non-college units within Academic Affairs; manage fiscal aspects of enrollment planning and expenditures in support of the schedule of classes; and coordinate requests from divisional units for IRA, Lottery, and SSF funds. In addition, the director also has financial management and oversight responsibilities for Academic Affairs' Trust Funds (i.e. Campus Partners, Faculty Reimbursed Time, Cost Recovery), UAS Contract and Grants and Agency Funds, as applicable. The Director will have an extensive understanding of HR policies and processes, overseeing human resources transactions on behalf of the Provost for Academic Affairs and advising Deans and senior staff on personnel issues and decisions. The incumbent will foster the development of staff across academic affairs to promote career opportunities and development capacity for positions within the university. S/he will assist the Vice Provost in planning and implementing professional development workshops for staff and management. The Director will advise and oversee college and divisional unit resource allocation; serve as fiscal and administrative officer for non-college units in the division to provide budgetary oversight; proactively analyze fiscal issues in colleges and the division; work with resource managers on financial assessments for the colleges and support areas; and provide advice regarding college resource allocations. On behalf of the Provost, the Director monitors the Academic Affairs division budget and the overall solvency of the Academic Affairs fiscal operations and provides feedback to the Provost and Vice Provost on performance assessments and accountability reviews as required in budget model development. The Director will also work collaboratively within Academic Affairs and across the university; provide strategic guidance to the Provost as to college and non-college-unit fiscal operations and college resource managers; support the Provost on the campus Resource Allocation Advisory Committee; and represent Academic Affairs on committees and initiatives related to fiscal resources. The Director will be a strong communicator, team builder, and team player who values and enjoys working in partnership with all members of the university. In addition, the Director serves as the budget and human resources officer for Academic Affairs Units, including the Provost's Office, Office of Planning and Budget, Faculty Affairs, Office of Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity, Graduate Studies, Undergraduate Studies, Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, and Institutional Effectiveness. The Director acts as an advisor and facilitator for budget and fiscal planning for special programs and initiatives, including foundation funds and state/federal grants. This involves strategic allocation of budget items in line with the terms and timelines of these external funding sources, and in compliance with CSU and campus policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Five years of experience with budget development, financial management, and accounting oversight
  • Experience in budgeting in a higher education or nonprofit setting
  • Experience with implementing and advising on HR policies and practices, staff management, and evaluation
  • Incumbent must demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU
  • As of January 1, 2022 the CSU Out-of-State Employment Policy prohibits the hiring of employees to perform CSU-related work outside the state of California
