About The Position

The Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law at High Point University invites applicants to serve as its inaugural Director of Academic and Bar Success and as a member of its inaugural full-time faculty. The School seeks an experienced visionary who will embrace the exciting opportunity under the supervision of the Dean to design, build, and oversee the law school’s academic and bar success program. As a faculty member in the School of Law, the selected candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment with a holistic approach to legal education that focuses on the doctrinal knowledge, practical skills, and values-based professional identity students need for success in a rapidly evolving legal profession. Candidates should have a passion for teaching, scholarship, and service, and should possess an entrepreneurial spirit and be well-suited to work in a collegial and student-oriented culture. As a new law school, the Kahn School of Law is seeking candidates who have broad teaching interests, but primarily seeks those who will teach the following courses in its first-year curriculum: Civil Procedure, Property, Torts, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, and Legal Research & Writing. Candidates should indicate in their cover letter the topical areas in which they would like to teach. The selected candidate will be expected to teach at least one for-credit course each academic year but will have a reduced courseload in light of the responsibilities in directing the academic and bar success program. Such responsibilities will include leading portions of new student orientation focused on academic success, meeting one-on-one with students for academic and bar success coaching, and teaching workshops that help students understand learning techniques and strategies important for academic success in law school and success on the bar examination. Such responsibilities may also include overseeing a pre-orientation summer academic success program for certain incoming students. The selected candidate will work creatively and collaboratively with other faculty members to enhance the teaching and curricular effectiveness in the law school. In addition, the selected candidate will participate in law school and University service as assigned and, as explained below, will contribute to the scholarly mission of the School of Law. The School encourages applications from qualified candidates who will contribute to the school’s stimulating intellectual environment. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience. This position is designed as a tenure-track appointment but experienced candidates not seeking a tenure-track position with scholarship expectations are also encouraged to apply. The anticipated start date for the position is July 1, 2025. The Kahn School of Law is one of the most recent graduate schools begun by High Point University, an innovative liberal arts institution with 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students and with an expertise in educating students in the life skills critical for professional success. The School of Law will be seeking ABA provisional approval at the earliest opportunity in conformity with ABA Standards.
