Inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ, the mission of Cardinal Ritter Senior Services is to be a recognized provider in giving person centered care through an integrated continuum of quality residential, healthcare, and supportive social services for senior adults throughout the Archdiocese of Saint Louis. Position SummaryThe Director of Nursing is responsible for Planning, Developing, Organizing, and Directing the overall operations of the Nursing Department in accordance with the Federal and State Guidelines and may be directed by the Administrator to ensure the highest degree of Quality Care is maintained at all times.Overview & Responsibilities• Responsible for coordinating the Planning, Developing, Organizing, Implementing, Evaluating, Controlling, Directing, and Staffing of a 24-hour Nursing Care Facility in accordance to Federal, State, and MQMC Guidelines.• Directs all Nursing activities to ensure Quality of Care for all Residents.• Oversee the assessment, intervention and evaluation of residents who are ill, newly admitted or exhibit a change in condition.• Ensure ADONs Assist Supervisors and or charge nurses with activities of the medical director, staff physicians, and consultant while ensuring the follow through of orders.• Ensure ADONs Review staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage at all times. Replace staff as needed and make adjustments for census and acuity that includes Adjusting and Reducing Staffing Schedules when Census is low to meet budgetary requirements.• Coach, Mentor, and or Develop all Nursing Staff as necessary to maintain a positive cohesive team environment that delivers high Quality Nursing Care to all Residents.• Ensure that Supervisors and Charge Nurses are Leading, Supervising, and Assisting CNAs and CMTs in delivering Quality Care to all Residents including Call Light Management.• Conducts multiple Daily Rounds independently and with ADONs to ensure that all staff is performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards.• Ensures that a written plan of care (preliminary and comprehensive) for each resident is maintained.• Ensures administrative duties such as completing Medical Documents, Charting, Progress Notes, Doctors Orders, etc. are completed by the nursing staff• Ensures ADONs are Conducting Chart Audits to all new Admissions within 24 hours of Admission.Overview & Responsibilities (cont'd.)• Utilizes Matrix System to ensure Nursing Practices are compliant with State & Federal Guidelines. This is to include but not limited to the following daily review: Open Events, Dashboard, and Facility Report.• Responds positively to requests for assistance from residents, family members and other employees.• Assist in the coordinating of all disputes and complaints concerning staff or resident and family members with diplomacy.• Schedules and Chairs monthly Supervisor meetings. Provides leadership training that includes the administrative and supervisory principles essential for the Supervisors and nursing staff.• Ensures Daily Attention to the Accountability and Responsibility of all Nursing Staff that includes Employee Performance, Employee Attendance, and other issues.• Ensures that incident reports are complete, and an investigation initiated with follow up as appropriate to include all Investigations are completed within 24 hours. Report to Administrator Resident Care Complaints, Abuse and Neglect, and or issues that are not in compliance with State, Federal, and MQMC Guidelines.• Interfaces in a Positive and Professional Manner with all Departments within CRSS and Maintaining a Positive Employee Morale.• Addresses grievances in conjunction with Human Resources.• Reviews applications of potential admissions to determine appropriate level of care needs.• Completes employee performance evaluations on designated Due Date for staff directly supervised.• Assists in development and review of plan of corrections for deficiencies noted during survey inspections.• Serve, participate and attend various committees of the facility and implements recommendations from established committees as they may pertain to nursing services.• Positively Cooperates, Accepts, and Supports Assignments and or Changes made by Administrator.• Participates in the formulation of philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures that directly, or indirectly, influence Nursing Services based upon the philosophy of care at Cardinal Ritter Senior Services.• Assists in coordinating department functions with other departments for a harmonious working relationship.• Assures the needs of the residents are met by hiring qualified personnel, and terminating Nursing employees according to policies.• Consults and works with Human Resources to make personnel needs known and to comply with regulations and policies related to personnel issues. Responsible for ensuring staff follows HR Policies and Procedures. Assists the development, maintenance and updating of written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the department with the support of the nursing staff.• Assists in preparing objectives and budget for Nursing Service.• Participates in administrative and departmental meetings and serves on committees as requested.• Assists with the activities of the Medical Director, staff physicians, and medical consultants as needed.• Meets regularly with the Administrator regarding needs and activities of the Nursing Department, and notifies the Administrator of any unusual incidents that occur.• Assists Nursing Supervisors with assessment and evaluation of resident needs, personnel issues, and staffing.• Participates in professional meetings to keep abreast of new developments in gerontology and changes in Nursing procedures.• Performs other duties as assigned and Delegates responsibilities to ADON(s) as necessary.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a professional Nursing program with a current Missouri state license.
  • Formal preparation and experience in administration and supervision of Nursing Service.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations governing extended care facilities including knowledge of the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process and Medicare regulations including Prospective Payment System (PPS).
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations governing employment regulations.
  • Knowledge of the operation and organization of an extended care facility.
  • Minimum five (5) years Nursing experience in long term care.
  • Specialized interest and experience in geriatrics and Nursing care of the chronically ill and convalescent resident.
  • Must be tactful, courteous, and patient in dealing with staff, residents, and public contact.
  • Must be in good physical and emotional health
  • Possess responsibility, initiative, leadership, tact, and creativity in developing Nursing care.
  • Be flexible to a working schedule that adapts to the needs of all shifts.
  • Must possess communication skills adequate to direct contact with employees, physicians, vendors, residents, families and visitors, must be able to assess and accurately service the needs of these persons by referring them to the delegated authority. Must be able to handle and maintain confidential information.
  • Must possess independent judgement and evaluate consequence of errors. Must be able to function independently within the confines of the position.
  • Must be able to set priorities within own work requirements.
  • Must possess good Nursing assessment skills and knowledge of all current residents.
  • Must be able to set an example to the Nursing personnel in regards to promptness, manner, dress/appearance, demeanor, safety, cooperation, Nursing practice, etc.
  • Must promote the philosophy of Cardinal Ritter Senior Services.
  • Must be able to perform the physical/mental functions/requirements of the position (see attached).
