About The Position

Job Summary Provides medical services within the Duval County Public School System under the supervision of a Physician. Performs routine screenings, first aid and comfort measures for students, routine follow-ups, concentrated diabetes care and clerical duties. Provides guidance to school based personnel on health-related matters. Essential Functions (N ot intended to be all inclusive) 1. Assesses student health issues and performs physical examinations. 2. Documents student health care services in student records . Obtains, updates, and reviews medical histories 3. Collaborates with Department of Health, Medical Doctors or family Physicians to clarify medical orders and address school related concerns. 4. Serves as a liaison between students, families, and schools to review student history, determine needs, and ensure proper student placement. 5. Coordinates student transportation to and from school for medically fragile students . 6. Advises the district on health related issues to inform policy. 7. Provides administrative support to school based nurses, assist with school placement of personnel based on need. 8. Serves as a resource for staff for medical and/or health issues. 9. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Education: Master of Science in Physician Assistant or Nursing, from accredited college or university. Experience: NA Licensing/Certification/Registration: Physician Assistant or Registered Nurse Practitioner certification. Must have a valid Florida Driver's License prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class. First Aid, AED & CPR certification must be obtained prior to completion of the employee’s probationary period and maintained during employment in this class. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Expert level knowledge of the principles, techniques, and procedures in providing nursing services for medically fragile children and those in the general education population Expert level knowledge of medical terminology and common medications Expert level knowledge of clinic procedures, instruments, equipment, and the uses and effects of medications and narcotics Expert level of childhood illnesses Expert level skills in application of practical nursing techniques Expert level skills in the use of glucometer, nebulizer, catheters, IVAC feeding machines and equipment, suction machine, and related medical equipment Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills Strong skills in establishing and maintaining information, record, document, and file systems Strong technical skills needed to create reports, analyze data, and communicate electronically Ability to administer medications and treatments adjusting to the student’s condition Ability to initiate appropriate emergency measures Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, parents, and other staff members Ability to inventory and order supplies

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Physician Assistant or Nursing, from accredited college or university.
  • Physician Assistant or Registered Nurse Practitioner certification.
