Working under general direction from the Sr. Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Director of New Student and Family Programs is charged with the planning, implementation, leadership and oversight of the mandatory SJSU new student orientation program for approximately 9,000 incoming first-time, first-year and transfer students, and the SJSU Parent & Family Orientation, which introduces incoming students and their parent(s) and family members to the university community and its resources, policies, and procedures in approximately 20 orientation sessions held during the summer and three orientation sessions in December. The incumbent is responsible for the overall management, planning, administration, direction, fiscal administration, and evaluation of the New Student and Family Programs department with multiple funding sources in excess of $2M. The incumbent is responsible for the development and implementation of campus policies and procedures, articulation, and an easily navigated, student-learning focused transition from intent to enrollment of admitted students through matriculation. The incumbent supports the transition process as it relates to yield programs, including Admitted Spartan Day and parent/family programming such as Spartan Family Weekend. The incumbent is responsible for the recruitment, training, supervision, evaluation, and assessment of four professional staff, and three graduate interns from the Association for Orientation, Transition, and Retention (NODA) who assist and coordinate programming related to Orientation and other transition activities. The incumbent also oversees the supervision, hiring, training, and performance evaluation of 55 orientation leaders.
