Director – Model Based Engineering –– Plymouth, MN - Hybrid Make your mark at the world’s largest HVAC company Daikin Applied is seeking a Director of Model Based Engineering; a strategic, transformational leader responsible for establishing and deploying a comprehensive Model Based Engineering capability across global engineering teams. This role sets the technical vision for modeling, simulation, analysis, and computational workflows; drives organizational change; ensures integration of advanced engineering tools; and collaborates closely with U.S. and international engineering and corporate leaders. The director provides subject‑matter expertise in MBE, leads cross‑functional initiatives, develops engineering standards, and enables both current product optimization and next‑generation product development. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Applied Science required; M.S. or Ph.D. strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of engineering leadership experience in HVAC or related industries (aerospace, automotive, microelectronics/controls).
  • Demonstrated experience leading Model Based Engineering in a new product development environment (stage‑gate and agile).
  • Leadership experience in a multicultural/global environment; international assignment experience highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Set the technical direction for Daikin’s Model Based Engineering strategy, tools, and workflows.
  • Integrate modeling, analysis, simulation, and computational tools into a cohesive MBE environment.
  • Define system-level requirements and KPIs for MBE implementation, including computing and storage optimization.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to ensure consistent adoption of MBE best practices across global teams.
  • Assess and transform organizational structures, processes, and culture to support MBE maturity and scalability.
  • Create standards, policies, procedures, and reporting mechanisms for MBE execution and continuous improvement.
  • Lead global collaboration, defining roles, responsibilities, and communication frameworks across engineering groups.
  • Implement innovative methods for reuse and integration of existing simulation tools, models, and physics codes.
  • Supervise and develop engineering staff, manage resource planning, and ensure timely execution of MBE projects.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and recommend advancements that enhance modeling and simulation capabilities.
