The Director, Medical Staff Affairs, provides direction and oversight of the Medical Staff and Allied Health Staff of the organization. Areas of responsibility are under strict regulatory guidelines and requirements which require consistent monitoring for compliance and minimization of risk. Requires coordination of activities with other departments throughout the organization. Routinely interfaces with Medical Staff leadership, physicians, legal counsel, organization and hospital administration, hospital IS, regulatory agencies and internal and external healthcare entities. High degree of personal interaction with customers. Ensures continued growth and development. Establish timelines for each process working with internal staff. Monitors progress, communicates changes, and ensures timeliness and adherence to budget guidelines. Manages project team activities. Responsible for continuous and ongoing research to maintain current and or develop innovative processes through software and internet tools to assure continuous growth of the department. Provides oversite for the credentials operations consisting of the approval of over 1400 medical staff members in compliance with state, federal, Joint Commission and Organizational requirements, adhering to the organization's policies and applicable laws. Develops Medical Staff Policies working with Medical and Administrative Leadership. Develops, coordinates and carries out the orientation for approximately 200 physicians and APCs per year in compliance with organizational and Joint Commission requirements. Interview, hires, and trains employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Work closely with Medical Staff leadership in establishing processes; managing Medical Staff Issues in collaboration with both MS and administrative leadership, and legal counsel to determine best practice and guide the medical staff through the appropriate bylaws process for both clinical and behavioral issues of the medical staff. Participate in Bylaws committee, Credentials Committee and Medical Executive Committee. Responsible for maintaining compliance of all processes related to the credentialing and education of the system’s practitioners in the processes named above.
