About The Position

As a Director of Labor Relations , you serve as a key member of the Americas HR Business Team with primary responsibility to negotiate and manage labor contracts and facilitate communication between Management and Union Representatives. You partner with Management, Union Representatives, and Human Resources to build a positive work environment grounded in employee relations, conflict resolution, and change management. You provide management oversight of a team to lead the labor relationships at the operating facilities for the Americas to build a harmonious relationship between management and employees while protecting the company’s interests and rights.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of labor laws with relevant qualifications or certifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a labor relations capacity
  • Proven experience negotiating and managing multiple labor contracts, including exposure to the UAW and USW
  • Demonstrated ability to sit at the negotiation table as first or second chair
  • Familiarity with the negotiation process and conflict resolution strategies
  • Experience operating in a manufacturing or industrially organized environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office and labor relations software for grievance management
  • History of leading teams and supporting professional growth and development
  • Experience designing and defining labor relations strategies that drive business performance and employee engagement while maintaining legal compliance
  • Ability to provide strategic guidance on both global and local labor agreements

Responsibilities

  • Champion Contract Negotiation: Lead meaningful change by negotiating collective bargaining agreements with multiple labor unions, ensuring that both management and employee interests are represented through effective labor law and compliance strategies.
  • Resolution Process: Foster trust, navigate challenges, and address and resolve employee matters, acting as a mediator between employees and management. Oversee and/or conduct investigations regarding labor relations issues with integrity, and participate in discipline and grievance procedures in accordance with CBA requirements. Apply proven conflict resolution and employee engagement practices to sustain positive outcomes.
  • Policy Development: Draft, refine, and implement labor relations policies, ensuring fairness, legal compliance, and alignment with organizational HR strategy and business goals.
  • Training and Guidance: Serve as a trusted advisor on labor relations matters. Provide training and guidance to management and employees on labor law interpretation, contract administration, and grievance procedures.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct research to support negotiations and provide data-driven insights to management on labor relations matters. Stay current on new labor laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Develop Strategy and Financial Modeling: Lead strategy with business and finance partners to design business-aligned labor relations strategies that enhance workforce planning, improve productivity, and maintain employee engagement.
  • Understanding and Interpreting: Resolve labor disputes and ensure all labor-related activities comply with regulations. Proactively interpret and administer labor contracts, including grievances, working hours and overtime, vacation and time off, wages and salaries, employee welfare, healthcare, pensions, and union practices. Utilize process improvement and continuous improvement approaches to strengthen relationships and reduce risk.
